Netgear Adapter I have a Netgear PCI adapter - WG311T, and wanted to know if their latest firmware version v5.0 will work for Windows XP x64 Edition?

It says it supports Windows Vista, which of coarse, it is a 64-bit OS. It doesn't say that it supports Windows XP x64 or not.

I'll try the updated drivers and see if it works. I have heard that a lot of manufacturer's support 64-bit OS for Vista and not Windows XP x64. So, if any software supports Vista, that doesn't mean it will work for Windows XP x64. Compatiblity for drivers is mainly for Windows Vista. All I can do is try it and see what happens.

Generally it will specify if it is not supported - Windows XP is referred to as the same Operating system regardless of 32 or 64 bit configuration as there is rarely conflicts; Hence unless there is an incompatibility the x64 Edition of XP will be categorised as "Windows XP" in the Operating systems list.

      Hope this helped

This model doesen't have Windows 7 support yet. Try with this driver version http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2566, it might work with Windows 7 as well. Otherwise you'll have to wait or change the operating system.

3)Extension cable (if being used) that connects the USB adapter and the computer might be faulty.
4)There is no driver support for the Operating system.
    Symptoms:
1)LED will not light up on the adapter.
2)Found New Hardware Wizard does not come up.
    Resolutions:
    1) Make sure you meet the minimum system requirements for the adapter and have the latest updates on the computer.
2)Use the latest driver for the adapter. Latest drivers link is mentioned below.
3)Try a different USB port or PCI slot on the computer.
4)Try another device and check if it gets detected.
5)Try to connect the adapter directly to the computer without using an extension cable.
6)Try restarting the computer or try adapter on a different computer.

    WG111T

The solution I have is quite simple. I use Vista premium x64 so someone else can test it on Xp but it should work for both. In Vista the 1.3 version doesnt work so Facid's solution doesnt work for me.

Get the 2.1 setup for Vista and install it.

Go to your NETGEAR folder wherever you installed it to (Program Files x86 for me) and copy the DRIVERS folder to your desktop.

Uninstall the smartwizard and remove everything in the NETGEAR folder.

Plug in your WG111T.

Go to Device Manager and find your WG111T in the list, Right Click and Update Driver.

Browse to the DRIVERS folder on your desktop when it asks where to look for the driver and the WG111T will install. It should popup with a little message when it is completed but you will not be online yet.

I dont know what you would do in Xp x64 system but I believe it has its own wireless manager like Vista and should be quite simalar.

IN VISTA go to the Connect To button in your Start menu, It should be under Computer and Network, it should show your router along with a 5 bar network strength graphic.

For me all I had to do was double click on the network and put in my WEP hex key and it conected.
