Question about Car Audio & Video

Open Question

I recently purchased a MA audio HK 898 1400 amp fromm a co-worker of mine. It had a capasitor hooked up to it when I bought it. Everything worked great the day I installed it but the next day and everyday since then, it will work and then I`ll go to work and when I get off of work it won`t, or vice versa. I`ve had multiple people look at it and the only advice I`ve gotten was to remove the capasitor but that didn`t work either. The remote wire power wire and ground wire are all hooked up correctly.

SOURCE: Green power light on JL Audio 500/1 but no output

Its the power transistors that would be affected by low voltage. It delivered till it finally gave up 'cos the output wattage to be generated at low voltage means more current flowing through the equipment. This high current will adversely affect all small solenoid valves & transistors and IC's. Even failure of one section of any IC is rarely detectable with the naked eye. It has to be thoroughly checked with a multi-meter to assess the damage correctly......sodeep

SOURCE: amp has power but sub doesnt work

You say the amp has power so you mean the green l.e.d. comes on correct? If so and you don't get any juice to your sub, check your RCAs make sure they're hooked up correctly. If they are check the wires to your sub, make sure they're making good contact, if its a binding post connection to the sub it can look connected but not be i've had it happen to me before. If the l.e.d. is red, you either blew a fuse on your amp, or your sub is blown, but if you get a green l.e.d. on the amp don't worry about those. If everything checks out and you still don't get power, take your setup to a professional and have him personally look it over for you....... hope you get your bass bangin!!!

I have a ma audio hk-602sx and my protect light wont go off and somthing is clicking inside and as it clicks the protect light blinks.

Disconnect the speakers and then try it again...there may be a shorted speaker or wire if the amp comes out of protect after you disconnect the wires...if the amp stays in protect after you disconnect the wires then there is a problem inside the amp with the circuitry and it will need to get serviced by an electronic tech

How do i drop it down to 0.5 ohm

there are no settings on the amp, if it is made to be stable at .5 ohm you will need 8 voice coils to make .5 ohm, if your subs ar 2 ohm, you will need 4 coils to make .5 ohm when hooked in parallel

My ma audio hk 898 will power on but will not push subs at all what can i do

Hello 76firebirdfo,

If there's no sound at all from the subs and you know they are good, there's probably no output from the amp. It's either wired incorrectly or it is defective.

If there's some sound but just not loud enough, then either the amp is not getting enough of an input signal from your head unit, or the amp settings are not adjusted properly. Adjust the crossover and gains for the best output to subs. LP filter on, crossover frequency at about 80-100Hz, and gain to maximum without distortion when head unit volume is at about 3/4 maximum.

Hope this helps.

Humming sound (speakers)when HK AVR is powered up.

In my case the buzz was only on front speakers. There are 3 capasitors (100uF/25V) very close to the cooling ribs of 3 regulators in the power supply. In my case the C922 was bad.

Ohm wiring

This depends on the ratings of the Amp. Check the docs for your amp. My Alpine will go as low as 2 ohms. The lower you go, the hotter your amp will get, so be aware of that. I actually had to mount a 12v fan next to mine to keep an air flow going over it. The thermal override was tripping.

My ma audio hk 4000 amp is powered on no sound coming thru subs amps brand new

If there is no protection light on, be sure the input is on. Some head units need to be turned on manually (factory set to OFF).
Verify the subwoofers are wired properly.
A list of your components would help to solve your problem.
If it is new, it should still be under warranty - worst case scenario output transistor(s) blown, or power supply bad.

MA Audio EHO152's

My honest opinion is that MA Audio is not in the same category as the other subs you mentioned. I buy a lot of electronics on ebay to avoid the giant mark up from stores. I found some MA's and got them for $.01 because no one wants them. However - any sub can preform well if you put the in the right box. I am a technician, not a salesman so you just heard my opinion for an experience standpoint.

Amp heats up and goes into protect mode

Hi Saint108. You're describing it well, and i know what the problem is already. The MA audio amp, can't hold with a 2 ohm load. It's too low for that amp, that's for sure. Those are budget amps and they are not well built enough to handle low ohm setups like that. It's overheating and there's no ways around it.. Other than wiring your subs differently ! Just wire your sub directly (not in parallel) in a 4 ohm load, you will notice it will stop overheating that much. Do it quick, you'll most likely fry your amp giving it such hard work !! The HUM you're hearing could be related to it also. Try that, and keep me posted on the status. Thanks ! Cheebster.
