I am going to upgrade ram to 1 gb. can i use ddr2 1 gb ram to upgrade .motherboard is microstar model ms-6526 ver: 2 . present ram is ddr1 400 MHz, 512 MB

If your computer has two RAM slots on the motherboard, i would recommend trying it. The computer will run on the 512MB stick alone and just not recognise the other stick. And if it works it works.

I have searced for support documentation and came up with none for the original MS-6526

I run my original version MS-6526 on a 512MB PC2300 (DDR1) and a 512MB PC3200 (DDR1) and it runs just fine for games and videos.

Personally I would recommend trying the DDR2 first and if that fails, return the card and get a DDR1 card. They are expensive, but at least they work.

I have an emachine T5026. Emachine tech swears this machine only supports pc2700 ram but the stickers on the factory installed ram says pc3200 256mb x 2 so i bought 2 memory masters pc3200 1gb x 2 sticks....

PC3200 is backwards compatible with PC2700. Meaning you can install PC3200 into your motherboard but it won't run any faster than would PC2700, however it will not cause any harm and should work fine.

Emachine's would say you need PC2700 most likely because they're trying to sell you some.

One of your new memory modules or the memory slots on your computer may be defective. I recommend installing a single stick of memory and booting your system. If it is successful then shut it down, disconnect the power and install another stick. Boot again and keep doing so and by process of elimination identify the bad memory stick or the bad memory slot.

This is the "likely" cause and isn't too uncommon.

Good luck.

RAM compatibility HELP

Yes this pc3200 is hardly compatible, because your motherboard is supportable of DDR 1 type RAM, Hence th PC3200 = 400 MHz, so you can add this ram to your PC, such that the ram which is between 266mhz to 400 MHz is absolutely a DDR1 type . please dont forget to vote for me.

I need more RAM for a program I'm trying to install

You must purchase more ram. Go to your local electronics store, such as Best Buy or Fry's, and you can carry a max of 4GB or Ram in your PC. Make sure you get the following style though:

PC2700 (333-MHz) or PC3200 (400-MHz) DDR SDRAM
(non-ECC). It can be any size up to 1GB

PC3200 is faster so I would go with that one. If you are unfamiliar with installing more ram, after you buy the new RAM, open the desktop and you will find 4 slots with probably two of them filled, or maybe one, with similar look RAM sticks. You will see notches in you new sticks. Make sure you install them by lining up the notch with the slot in the correct direction.

Dimension 2400 is at 1.5MG - will not go to 2.0MG per manual!

yeah thats a normal issue with the dimension 2400 as the older bios only supports a max of 1gb of memory you will need to go to the dell website which ive linked below and get the bios update which will give you support up to 2gb-pc3200 ddr memory

Is the ram that you are putting in the pc3200 or the ram or the ram that was in there the pc3200. If that is what you took out, that is what you should put in. If this is what you plan to put in, you just have to try. Try what you have. It won't hurt it if it isn't compatible. If it doesn't work, 2700 should.

Microstar motherboard p4m 266

Hi Andy. Sorry I disappeared, it was way past my bedtime.

Your board will support 2gb of DDR266/PC3200 memory, although there are other considerations if you're using very high performance modules.

The board is still fully supported by MSI and you can find further information at the following address:

http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=P4MAM-L

If you click on the download centre link on the left of that page you'll find drivers and updated BIOS if you need them.

Hope this helps,

erch.
