CANON SX110 DIGITAL CAMERA

sounds like a LCD fault could be just a ribbon cable connection. If double checking your batteries are good and removing the mem card has no effect then it may have to go for professional service.

How do change the language back to English?

Press the Playback button (marked with a right-pointing triangle). Hold down the FUNC/SET button and press the MENU button. Use the cursor buttons to select a language and press FUNC/SET.

The full instructions are in the "Setting the Display Language" of the User Guide (page 14 in my copy). If you need a manual, you can download one at

I cannot format the memory card using my Canon Powershot SX110 IS Digital Camera. The option is greyed out in the menu and an error message saying that the card is locked is on the screen. THE CARD IS NOT...

You don't give any details about the card that is not working in your camera. I suspect it is not an SD card but an SDHC (high capacity) card. "SD" cards larger than about 1GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

If this is the case, try a card of 1GB or less. This will hold plenty of pictures, 60 times as many as the 16MB card. If you really need more space then just carry a spare 1GB card and swap when you fill the first one.

I need to adjust the shutter speed for my Canon Powershot SX110. It is way to slow. And to make matters worse I lost our user manual.:(

You can download a copy of the manual from the manufacturer's web site at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=324&modelid=17480

The easiest way to control the shutter speed is to turn the mode dial to Tv (Time-value) mode. You then control the shutter speed by turning the command dial.

That's the "how". Now for the "why". I believe your main problem is the lack of light. In such cases the camera will slow down the shutter speed in order to get sufficient light to the sensor. A partial solution is to raise the sensitivity of the sensor. You do this by pressing the ISO button and pressing up/down to make your selection.

However, if there is not enough light, you just will not be able to get a sufficiently fast shutter speed. Depending on the situation, you can use flash, either the built-in one or an external unit.

The small sensor of a compact camera only makes it worse; the larger sensor in a dSLR will be more sensitive to light.

I have lost my manual for my Canon Powershot SX110 IS. Until I replace the manual, can you tell me how to delete pictures from the camera after I have uploaded them? Thank you!

Sure. The fast way is to format the memory card. As soon as you are SURE all your pics are downloaded, disconnect the camera and do a format. Fast and painless. Its good to format a camera occasionally anyway. No error checking. Even Locked photos are erased!!
