Hi and welcome to fixya
yes that's why your computer is slow you RAM should be atleast atleast (1gb) and 1gb is equal to 1024MB. and i recommend you to have 2gb RAM if you want to play games

SOURCE: I have 256 MB RAM which is slow, can i upgrade it to 512 MB RAM

Depends completely on what motherboard the computer has and what it supports, I could check on it if you have and brand and model of the computer, or from the motherboard.

Sure the prosessor speed doesn't affect the memory amount possible don't worry about that, just need to find out how much is supported and at what speed etc.

Thanks,
Ekse

My exceel 2003 slows down upon reaching my file to 12.0 MB..it takes 4-5 minutes before performing a task...what's the problem with this?

12.0 MB for an excel file is HUGE! That in and of itself is the problem and would slow down most computers. Nothing is wrong.

I have intel 845 glly desktop board with 256 mb SDR. When I added 128 mb SDR in the second slot it is not recognising it. How to add 128 mb SDR with 256 mb SDR. When I fix 128 mb ram in first slot and...

1st try to exchange the cards in the slot.
2nd try another card
3rd ur RAM slot may not be ok
4th ur RAMs may not be compatible
5th ur new RAM card may not be ok
use same type of RAMs, and same size...
if u have 256, add 256
if u ahve 128 add 128
if u have SDR then dont add DDR
getting compatibility is little difficult...
some times no combinations can work...
note...technology keeps changing...so a old RAM card that was bought years ago may not be compatible with a new RAM card....
even i got all my old RAM cards(256+128) removed and got 2 - 512mb of the same type fixed...even i had issues with my RAMs for 6 months...

If it shows only 448 MB only means the RAM you are currently using is 512 MB only...person who changed your RAM might cheated you instead of putting 2GB RAM...And also check your laptop for any virus...

Skype runs slow on video

You absolutely need more RAM. I have 2.4GHz processor with 2GB RAM and Skype video runs pretty smooth.

Since your computer is 10 yrs. old, you may not even be able to install enough RAM to make it "good".

If I can be of more assistance, use the Comment button to reply.

Thanks for using Fixya.
