Question about Brother SE400 Computerized Sewing and Embroidery Machine
My machine that I have only had since August 2012 will not work properly. At one point the feed dogs dropped in the middle of my sewing and wouldn't come back up. Took it in for repair and now the material will not "feed" through and I am unable to move the lever to raise or lower the feed dogs. What might be the problem?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: I have a Brother 98-Stitch
I dropped my feed dogs and when I pushed the button to bring them back up, it wouldn't work. I did discover that when you put the button back to the up position and start sewing, the dogs come back up automatically.

Remove needleplate and clean out the built up lint between the teeth of the feeddogs.
When moveng from Feed Down to Up, rotate handwheel one revolution to re-engage.
If neither is a problem and your manual is of no assistance, take it to a service centre to check it out and quote.

Oil might help but it sounds like you don't have enough pressure on the foot. You can take the casing off where the light is and there is a screw back there that controls the tension on the pressure foot. It is not meant to be changed by anyone but a professional. I've changed the tension but it wasn't easy. If you are still interested let me know and I will try to explain.

Some machines have to take a stitch for the mechanism to "pop" back into place, I don't really know if your brother is like that but try to sew with it and see if they click back into place.
