Question about General Electric GE 13-438 Overhead Garage Door Switch

Open Question

Our 1/3hp overhead door opener stops frequently at a similar spot unless I help lift it by hand. Some times it will also stop coming down at various places. Any ideas?

YOU MAY HAVE A BROKEN SPRING.

CHECK FOR A GAP IN THE SPRING ABOVE THE DOOR.

SOURCE: We have an Overhead garage door. It has started

A bad circuit board or capasitor will cause this, mostly its the circuitboard. Depending on the age replace it with a Chamberlain/Sears opener or they make a model called LIFTMASTER you can only get this thru a garage door company.

Chamberlain garage door opener, it goes up but won't come down, it stops various places and goes back up. We have reprogramed does not help. This is brand new, please help

It sounds like it is getting jammed. Check and make sure the door can slide up and down freely otherwise, the motor will reverse and lift the door again. You may have to do a reset on the motor drive itself to clear the programmed open / shut distances. There should be a release arm to allow you to open and shut the door without the motor being operated so you can check for binding / jamming etc.

Bill manually try lifting/raising the door, you should be able to raise door manually easily or there is a adjustment required on the tension springs, you may have to have a tech. do this, links below may help.

IT JUST STARTED TO ACT UP. i WILL START TO GO UP 1 FT AND STOP AND YOU PUSH THE BUTTON AGAIN AND IT GOES DOWN. tHEN YOU TRY AGAIN, SOMETIMES 2-3 TIMES.

Un-hook the chain from the door, and see how hard it is to raise the door. It should be easy, not hard. If it's hard to open by hand, the opener won't do it, and will stop. You can adjust the springs to counterbalance the door so it's easy for the motor to lift it. You may need new springs.

Hi the right hand hinge of the door has popped out whilst I was trying to move the oven using the door handle as leverage. The door is now wonky when closed as the hinged has popped out. Help!

All oven door typically lift off the hinges by design. If you open the door to what is referred as the broil position. You know when the door stops about 4 to 6 inches open at the top. Then do the following.

1. Lift the door up completely off the opposite hinge still in place and remove. Set the door aside carefully as if has glass window, you do not want to break.

2. Then set both hinges at the broiler stop position. If one is all the way in to door fully closed position pull it out with your hand or with pliers till it stops @ broiler position. If all the way down as if door was fully open, lift hinge until it stops at broiler position. CAUTION- THE HINGES ARE SPRING LOADED AND CAN SNAP BACK INTO FULLY CLOSED POSITION. You can use a heavy glove or if you have an oven mitten, that can work to protect your fingers. DO NOT GET YOUR FINGERS BETWEEN HINGE AND OVEN OR CAN PINCH FINGERS.

3. Now carefully lift the door over the hinges set at the broiler position. Careful not to bump them when doing so or can snap closed. If does, reset hinge to broiler position and repeat. Works best to hold door at angle that door is when in broiler position. Once you have them started evenly, you should be able to fully slide down back onto both hinges.

4. If one of the hinges no longer has spring tension you have to reattach the spring. You can usually access spring if needed by removing the bottom drawer.

I have a garage door opener (Chamberlain Lift Master Professional 1/2 HP) all the sudden it stops durring clossing & opening The garage door. no paticular spot. just on a random spot at ramdom times,...

Somewhere on the power head( motor ) is 2 knobs. The are to adjust up and down force. As the opener gets a little old you will need to turn these up occasionally! Turn to the right a 1/4 of a turn and try. I that doesn't work turn it up a little bit more. This should get you fixed up!

My problem is similar to the one above. My opener with lift the door, but when it comes to a stop in the "up" position the lights blinks and there is a clicking sound and I can't get the door...

Check your door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. Tweak them a bit. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have bad sensors.

Motor hums but nothing happens

I just had the same problem. Extreme cold, garage door stops working, motor hums, same here. I opened up the my garage door opener(after unplugging it), and found that the wormwheel had a wear spot on it. This is the gear that allows the motor to raise and lower the garage door. Any way, after the wife "sugested" that the door was too heavy to lift, I went and bought a new garage door lifter. But if you are handy dandy with tools, I have seen the wormwheel for sale here. http://www.aaaremotes.com/gearsprocask.html It's the plastic wheel that went bad on me. If I would have found this before buying the garage door opener, I would have got the sprocket assembly. I hope this helps!

Door needs assistance to open all the way - Chamberlain Liftmaster

Watch the door go up and down to figure out the problem, but it sounds like a problem with the springs. We have had similar problems with our garage and it is usually because one spring has more tension on it than the other so when it tries to go up one spring pulls more than the other and the door gets wedged on the rails. I have found this usually occurs when the springs get older and they usually break a short time later. The best solution I have is to check and possible replace the springs.
