If not the lamp bad (new ones sometimes fail) it may be the ballast which powers the lamp, Google the model number with ballast to see what it looks like and costs, You Tube many times will have video instructions for this as well, from that decide if you want to gamble and if you can do it or not.

SOURCE: Lamp life

This lamp life is about right if the TV is getting constant use. Please check that the cooling fan is running at the correct speed and the vents are unobstructed.

SOURCE: Put new bulb in hitachi

hey there it sounds like the problem is coming from your ballast board, the ballast board is the power source to the lamp. with time this part starts to wear out and get weak your old lamp is already burning out there for it does not need that much voltage to turn on but the new lamp has not been worn out or used there for it needs the ballast to be working at 100%

hope this solution helps

Ok, what is the problem exactly? What is the model number of the TV? Are you hoping to get help locating the parts? The repair is very difficult unless you've done TV repairs before... it's very possible to do more damage than good.

Let me know if you really want to still proceed along with the info requested.

How do i remove the carriage to get the lamp out of my hitachi dlp 50v710

1. Consult the owner manual or Google for it online--instructions are usually there.

2. Call Hitachi customer service for live help.

3. Look on You Tube as they have for most sets Video instructions for most models for replacing the lamp.

There is red and blue lines around screen and images. (Almost looks like it should be 3d). Does this mean it needs a new lamp/bulb? It is only 6 years old. What is the cost for the part? Thank you

If model number is as listed (46f500) it does not use a lamp or bulb but has three picture tubes.

3d means the two convergence chips in the set have failed.

It depends on if you can solder etc, not a very expensive parts cost (under 30 dollars)

Can you solder?

Where can i get a remote for an older hitachi television. i have the model and serial numbers.

EBAY IS YOUR BEST CHOICE, if you have the original remote it has a clu number on it. If the set is over 7 years old the remote is likely not available from Hitachi.

Let me know what you have and I will try to assist.

I have a 50 inch widescreen LCD HITACHI and it needs a new lamp. How much would that cost?

Google the model number with the word lamp after it---price ranges from 79 for just bulb and from 124 for bulb with housing (cartridge)

Do some shopping and I suggest the one in a cartridge as if you buy just the bulb you have to take the old housing apart and install it.

Shop warranty as well, some of these are 90 days and some much longer warranty.

Samsung HLR5668WTV went black, replaced LAMP. Turned TV on. No picture but now there is a humming noise. TV try's to turn on 2 or 3 times then doesn't and all 2 indicators lights are blinking.

If the noise is a high pitched whine or even a grinding sound you may have a bad color wheel.

These fail quite often in these sets although it is unusual for a lamp to be associated with it. Put old lamp back and see if same problem. (unless old lamp is shattered)

If it is the color wheel I can tell you how to look at it to see if shattered without taking the set completely apart.

See attached photo of typical color wheel.

If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

Lamp light on after i replaced the blown lamp Hitachi 60v500a

Was the tv working before you replaced the lamp? if it was then make shure you have reinstalled the new lamp and the door exactly as removed, there is a disconect switch on the door that has to close when the door is reinstalled,or sometimes the ballast may go bad at the same time.Hope tha t will help you fix it.

Mod 50v500. went black while watching with a popping noise. will not come on, power light and lamp and temp lights blink.

A good idea is to locate the lamp door; remove and examine the lamp--if it is exploded( looks like old school flashbulb) it is your problem.

This part is customer replaceable--If you have your owner manual instructions will be in it. If you do not have owner manual Google model number with "lamp replacement instructions"

If this does not work, let me know and I will try find them for you--the POP suggests the lamp went out.
