SOURCE: I have a sony a100. It says unable to use card

What card do you use on the A100? And what capacity? Are you sure you have inserted it in the correct way? Be careful while inserting a CF card because of you insert it wrongly, it can damage the camera. Zooming is done using the zoom ring on the lens barrel. Just twist the zoom ring. Hope you are using the 18-70mm kit lens with the camera.

Was your camera off when you connected it to the pc? It has to be off in order to work. Also, Does your camera require drivers? You might have to have the driver installed in your pc order to work.
Also, did you plug in your camera to your pc and go to my computer to see if it's listed there as a drive?

look through the SD slot, all pins should in position and clean, if something looks wrong, try to clean or adjust the pin with philips #000 screw drive or similar size tools
if everything looks just fine, try to put another SD card.
if nothing works to you, through it to trash or sell on ebay.

Hi,
The camera may display a MEMORY STICK ERROR or C:13:xx message (xx can be any random number) on the LCD screen for the following reasons:
IMPORTANT: If model-specific information is required to complete any of the steps in this solution, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  1. Remove and re-insert the Memory Stick® media several times.
  2. The inserted Memory Stick media is not compatible with the camera. Check your instruction manual for information regarding Memory Stick media compatibility.
  3. The inserted Memory Stick media is not formatted. Format the Memory Stick media using the FORMAT option in the camera menu. WARNING: There is a risk of data loss. Formatting will erase all stored data, images, movies, etc., from the Memory Stick media.
  4. The terminals on the Memory Stick media are dirty. Remove the Memory Stick media from the camera and use a soft dry cloth or pencil eraser to clean the contacts. Make sure there are no residual particles on the Memory Stick media before re-inserting it into the camera.
  5. The data on the Memory Stick media or the Memory Stick media itself is damaged. Try using a different Memory Stick media in the camera.

Thanks
Proton

Device is detected but i can not open it. When i double click on that it gives message as "Please insert device"

Most 5 in 1 media card readers act like that, you must insert a media card, either SD, Micro SD, MS, MMC, XD or M2 if supported, in order to open it. You can try with your digital camera SD card.

Hi the camera cannot read the memory card, i have chaqnge the card and still can not read it.

The Sony has an interesting array of memory media of which one of them (I don't know which you are using) is possible to lock (write protect) but this requires a pin or some other sharp pointed instrument. If the card is new then this is a possibility if you have been using the card then it's not likely the problem.

With the memory card checked to make sure the protect switch is in the "read/write" position then I would say your memory card needs to be formatted to the camera. This is found in the camera's menu here is a diagram

This should solve your problem.

Powers on, lens extends, 3 beeps, lens closes, camera turns off

Try doing a couple of things.

1) remove and digital media cards.
2) turn the camera on and delete any pictures that may be stored in the camera memory (not on a removeable card)
3) remove the batteries for 60 seconds
4) replace the batteries without the media card and lay the camera on a flat surface with the lens pointing up (5) The lens should retract.
6) Turn off the camera
7) replace the media card and turn on.

I think the camera was getting hung up on the pictures stored in the camera's memory.

How do I use micro sd card in camera

What is the orange "card" bundled with my camera and how do I use it?
The “card," pictured below as packaged, is the MASD-1 card adapter.
    masd-1_microsd_adapter.jpg
The MASD-1 accepts microSD and microSDHC media, giving owners the option to record to those cards or to xD-Picture Card media, which is Olympus’ preferred format.
To use microSD/SDHC media in the camera, simply insert the card into the adapter and then insert the adapter into the camera's memory card slot.
