Question about Washing Machines

Miele W701 drum stopped working

Machine working fine until the other day. Drum does not rotate during washing cycle or spin. Water comes in fine, heats up and drains away. Had machine since new over 20 years ago - is it worth repairing?

Additional information - water pump seems ok and drain filter cleaned out. Power ok to machine and door opens from control panel. Cold fill but machine heats up water as normal when going through washing cycle and drains when should. Only problem seems to be that drum does not go round during washing cycle or during spin cycle.

Hi, I have the same problem as you, same washing machine model, I suspect the problem lies with the electronic control box, the electrolytic capacitors probably dried up from old age and need replacing. The control box is behind the front large door / panel of the machine (not the drum door); in order to open the large door / panel you have to remove the two screws near the detergent drawer, three screws near the entrance of the drum (the three that are covered when the door is closed, and with a screwdriver underneath the machine, right under the wash filter door, there is a release mechanism, push it down to open the door (there are hinges on the other side, so it won't fall off). The control box is the white box held with two screws you can see at 2:23 in the following video I found on YouTube (it's the first video that comes up on Google when you search for Miele W701, in this case it's an Italian model machine, but internally it's the same thing everywhere). Electrolytic capacitors have acid inside and it's perfectly normal for them to dry up over time, lasting twenty years is very good, but all of them dry up sooner or later. The pcb is fairly large and the circuits well spaced and thus it should be fairly doable for anyone with a soldering iron and proper solder (and soldering skills) to replace the electrolytic capacitors with new ones of the same rating (the rating is written on each capacitor). Or you can try to see if you can find a replacement control box from Miele. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3nnSUxQWJI Cheers.

I just found this site which might be of interest for you (and for me!), provided you can send them the pcb, they willl repair it for you (pretty affordable, by the way, not that capacitors aren't cheap, they are, but it still takes time to do the job yourself and srouce the adequate capacitors, so this seems like a pretty good deal:http://youfixit.eu/en/index.html

Yes!!! I have replaced all the electrolytic capasitors on the electronic control box, and it seems to work better then ever :-).

SOURCE: DRUM HAS STOPPED SPINNING

Well, I failed to find your product but found close and I've read the manual and can see no sign of anything being able to be presed that would stop motor operating in its wash cycles, I take it that you have totally drained/removed clothing and let machine get to normal start position, and done the standard disconnect from power, and plug it back in and test again and make sure no flashing lights are present and door is locking correctly

Possibility exists that your balance switch is faulty I'd look at that if not then Either motor is dead or control board is faulty

If you know your way around electricity then you could test if power is being supplied to motor.

As for the count losing 10 mins then thats pointing to control board fault (quite possible due to operations panel being operated)

SOURCE: Bosch WFL2450 Washing Machine wont spin cycle

Hi there, this problem sounds as though the carbon brushes are needing replaced or infact just needing to be cleaned of dust or dirt. Its very common for the brushes to be covered in dust and fibres. Im not sure where the brushes will be on this model but I hope this helps you in someway.

SOURCE: Hoover hpe 236. water not draining, stops mid cycle, lights flash

Have you checked the pump filter, and or that the pump is actually working. if it spins o/k with no water in, then I would suspect a draining problem.
If filter clean and pump o/k, then it could be a control module fault. if this were the case, then it would probably be wiser to purchase a new washer.
Hope this is of some help to you.

My miele wt945s takes in some water after final spin so clothes at bottom of the drum end up wet. Can I stop this happening

There is a problem with the programming of the control board if this is occurring.

All you can do is turn off the water to the machine at the end of the full cycle and then run the spin cycle again to dry out the clothes. Then no water can enter the wash drum.

Otherwise you would need to turn off the water each time before the spin cycle concluded and thus before the machine began adding water again.

Miele w1113. Washer drum won't spin during wash cycle

I assume you are saying the machine is working except the drums not turning? - you need to see if the belt has come off because thats what i would check first if you hear the motor start/stop after it fills up with water.

DRUM NOT SPINNING

Disconnect your washer's plug for 5 minutes or more from the wall socket. Plug in. Press "end of cycle" button for over 5 seconds, the child lock comes off.
Press it again and the child lock comes on................ If this does not work, try the pre-wash button likewise.
