Question about Brother Network-Ready Wireless Color All-In-One Printer MFC-J435W

1 Answer

Laptop does not find Brother MFC-J435W Printer via Linksys E1000 router

The printer says it's connected to my Linksys E1000 Wifi router and so does my PC laptop and iphone. However, neither PC nor iphone find the printer on the network. Do I need to upgrade the firmware of the E1000? Currently I have the old firmware version 1.0.01 on it.

Usually you need the printer driver to be installed on each device( PC- yes, but not sure how you would do the Iphone). Also verify that you have done the IP settings within your printer and that your computer can seethe printer

I know the printer's IP address from its network settings, but I cannot open that with the browser on my PC; thus, the PC doesn't see the printer in the network. As far as the iphone goes, the instructions of the printer say I can use AirPrint without any driver or app. Alternatively, there is an app for the printer, but neither one of them finds the printer.

Works now. I found out it had to be my router, as I could print using one of my neighbor's open networks. I upgraded the router's firmware which initialized everything and then reconfigured it. Not sure if this reconfig did it or if the firmware update was necessary.

Need pairingcode for brother MFC-J435w

Pairing code? That sounds like Bluetooth. I don't think that model supports Bluetooth, just WiFi. Either way you can find the manuals here.

If you have a wireless network, you'll need to connect the printer to it. To do that you'll need to know the network name and (I hope) security key. Instructions are on page 18 of the Quick Start Guide on the page linked above

Does the linksys-G support WPS or AOSS?

Good question, I have the same router & Brother HL-2280DW and ran the printer setup CD from Windows XP SP3 via temporary USB connection & it seemed to work. The WAN report on the printer itself says OK, however the computer can't seem to find the printer "No devices could be found on the network." I let setup make changes to Windows Firewall, not sure about Microsoft Security Essentials however. This seems like a nice printer/copier at a nice price but this setup is frustrating! PS If it's a security issue I'd like to say thanks to all the hackers for ruining technology for everyone, your junk is responsible for slowing down & complicating computers & technology in the world. Someone please do everyone a favor & start making antibodies that *kill* viruses & spyware & spam and clean & speed things up for a change! All these villians - Where are the cyber super heroes????

I have a mfc-j410 and am trying to go wireless with an EVDO u210 usb mobile broadband on my laptop. Can not get it to connect wireless. Any suggestion would be appreciated

What you are proposing cannot be done as a mobile broadband modem is sort of a 'mobile phone' device (e.g. Dual band for CDMA 2000 1X and EVDO Rev.A networks 800/1900MHz) and your printer would at best be WIFI 802.11 compatible (ps. MFC-J410 has no 'W'ifi support).

Brother MFC-J410 is USB connection can only be used to connect to a PC/Laptop or print server/router (which may have WIFI support).

You have to make sure the following are used on your wireless settings on your router -

Wireless Network Security SSID (32 chr), WEP 64/128bit, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)

This means your SSID is less than 32 chars and your running either WEP, WPA. Or WPA2

Then on your printer make sure you have the wireless enabled and Just a good rule of thumb - When putting in a wireless printer just fudge with the wirless/TCP/IP settings on the printer until you can ping the printer from the PC. Do NOT bother running the software installs until you know you have a good ping from the printer as it will just bomb out.

do rate the solution plz

I can't get the printer to share with my laptop

MFc 7420 is not the network printer, the printer either need to set up from one PC then share to another PC ONLY.
Or if you have server then you can share this printer, otherwise impossible.

Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.
