Monitor switching to powersave mode 5 secs after power on

I have a Pavillion MX75 17in CRT monitor for my desktop computer. I rarely use this PC but it always worked fine until I moved last year. It was moved carefully and when I connected everything and powered on the monitor it the screen stays blank and 5 secs later the power button switched from green to the amber powersave mode along with the normal clicking sound that goes along with this action. It looks like a pin may be missing from the plug, I think it's pin# 9 which is labeled as a floater (whatever that means). It doesn't look like the pin is stuck in the computer and for all I know the pin may never have been there and be unnecessary. I have tried everything I can think of from resetting the default by holding the + down when powering on to opening the computer and making sure all plugs and cards are properly seated and tight. At one point during the summer I tried it and out of nowhere it worked fine. This went on for a few months then all of a sudden I had to power off the computer for some reason and it started going to DPMS powersave mode again. Any suggestions? The monitor is discontinued so I can't find much on troubleshooting and in the meantime I can't get important files off my computer and I don't have access to another monitor (nor the funds to buy a new one).
