My tv says invalid format when I plug my dell inspiron into it

Sounds like you may need to check your video drivers for an update, besides Windows itself find out what video you have Intel or Amd and update thru their website. It can also be that your tv is running at a resolution that your laptop might not support. However most new video drivers allow for custom resolution settings that can be applied besides the native ones in windows. If its a vga cable I almost can be certain that it is not allowing the native resolution of your display.Hdmi will automatically adjust it.Also try hooking the laptop up to a Pc monitor and check for a display if it works on the monitor you need a custom resolution for your tv. Also try a different input on the tv (if ones available) and check it.

Why has my laptop screen gone smaller, aprox 2cm on both sides? can you please help me.

You may have to adjust your video resolution. If you have windows 7 then go to your desktop and right click. You should see "screen resolution" click it. goobermascot.png You should see this screen and you should click the drop-down menu next to resolution. Click and drag to the highest or recommended resolution.
If that didnt work and you have an AMD/ATI graphics card then right click and select "Catalyst Control Center". If that is not an option then go to this LINK and select your graphics card and download the catalyst software suite and install it. If you dont have to install it then just click on it. goobermascot_0.png
Once you have Catalyst control center, open it and click the "My Digital Flat-Panels" and select scaling options. Turn the scaling option to 0% and you should have you full screen back. Hope this helps.

Unexpectedly and usually while watching video like, HULU, Netflix, or a live Movie maker project the Machine freezes. On screen is a series of dark and light vertical lines with no visual error message,...

There are lot of issues with Windows 7 and software compatability. What I have found , that works, is the uninstall of the ATI/AMD software and then reinstall with latest drivers. Your graphics do have Windows 7 support. What I suggest is uninstall all ATI/AMD software and reinstall from AMD. In programs and features, you will see 2 maybe 3 lin items that are ATI, Catalyst install manager, etc. You want to start with uninstalling the catalyst. Right click on it and when asked, pick the "express" remove all ATI softare option. When this is finished. Restart and go back to programs and features and make sure all ATI is removed. You can then go here:
I entered your info but will outline.
Component Catagory-Desktop graphics
Product line-Radeon HD series
Product model-Radeon HD 3xxx series
Enter o/s Win 7 64 bit
Click "view results"
Your download will come up. I don't know if you've done this before but I believe this is the best place to get your drivres and certainly the best Catalyst Control Center. You will need to restart after install.
Make sure you enter your resolution in the control center.

Small screen when opening games in windows 7 64 bit . have updated drivers and changed screen resolution - nothing helps, and its all games thats not fullscreen. System is a Aspire 4738ZG 14 inch...

If you were to reduce the screen resolution to the recomended for the game, it should fill the screen depending on what aspect ratio the game is. The higher the resolution the smaller the picture.
Hope that helps.

I have a 17 inch laptop and i use it to connect to my 22 in tv but when i tried to put it on a 45 in tv it didnt work and now wen i try to put it on the 22 inch again its not working. what should i do?

you will probably find that your TV cant vope with the resolution you have the laptop set to. Set your laptop to a low resolution setting then try again, once you have it working take the resolution up to a higher setting until it fails again. Now you will know for next time what the setting should be before connection.

Cant connect asus computer to tv via hdmi

Try turning both pc and tv off and connect, then turn both on. Also, make sure your Display setting are correctly configured. Goto Control Panel, Display and click on Settings Tab. If your still having trouble. Try changing your resolution and make sure that you have your TV to the right input. My TV has 4 HDMI 3 RCA 2Component 1 Digital Optical many USBs...can get kinda confusing. The connection should be numbered. Switch inputs with your remote til you get the right port. Then work on getting your pc to display correctly. Set your aspect ration to 16:9 first. Most tv and laptops are set this way. GOOD LUCK let me know how it goes.

Tried hooking the computer to an external monitor. Got the welcome screen ok, then it lost sync and went black. Tried it on another plasma; same result. SVGA cable connection.

Hi there. When you connect an external display, your laptop clones your desktop to the external display, including resolution settings. First you need to check what resolution settings the plasma can display. If your laptop is set to a resolution that the external monitor can't display, then you will lose the display once the resolution settings are loaded. You can change the laptop resolution in your Display Settings.

If you don't know what settings the external monitor can display, just open your Display Settings and set your laptop resolution to 1024x768. Almost all new monitor/tv's can display it. Connect your external display, and see what happens. If it works, but the resolution doesn't look right, then just move the resolution along one more, until you find one you're comfortable with.

N.B. Some monitors/tv's "jump" resolutions. i.e. the monitor can display 1024x768, 1300x768, but not 1280x800.

Another thing to remember is that if you are running Windows Vista, you may need to check that the Windows Mobility Center recognises the external display that you are trying to use. You can find Windows Mobility Center by clicking Control Panel, then Mobile PC. It should now be listed on the screen.

Let me know how it goes, and if it works, please rate.
