OK try locating and replacing the Thermistor temperature sensor? Either that or the Thermostat for the Oven?

My mother had the same problem with her Gaffers-Sattler range. No one could figure out what was wrong with it. Her local new appliance repair people said to contact J.E.S. Enterprises, Inc at www.theoldapplianceclub.net. Whew; thank God for that tip. They knew exactly what the problem was and repaired the unit for her. The stove is running again like a workhorse! The pilot is under the bottom oven deck, usually you can lift the front edge, and slide it out, smelling gas without a pilot would be bad, that means either A : your safety is bad, and allowing gas to flow anyway, which requires replacement, and you may as well replace the thermocouple, and clean the pilot. or B : it is old enough it does not have a protected pilot, and you have to manually light it, usually indicated by an open hole in the front middle of the oven deck plate when you open the door, with a tube going to the burner. or C : your oven burner is bad or misaligned with the burner, and is shooting gas away from the pilot area, it would light via an open pilot eventually, but you don't want that. Please let us know, or have a qualified servicer look at it. Happy New Year, and thank you.

SOURCE: I have a Hollywood Gaffers

Some of the later models (like the Series 24) had a clicker electric light for the burners on to and a Glo Plug that you can see come on before the gas lights.
Ig the Glo Plug does not reach a certain temperature then the Gas is not tunrd on to the Oven Burner as a Safety feature.

If you open the bottom door (Broiler) and look up:
1. Turn the oven on to 200 or 300 degrees. The oven should light
when the Glo Plug reaches a temperature hot enough to light the gas.

If you do not see the Glo Plug come on, or hear clicking when trying to light the top burners you should have a professional look at it if you are not experianced with working on gas applicaences. Never circumvent a safety device to try and make something work, they are there for a real good reason.

I have a 1965 gaffers & sattler wall oven with the oven on the top and the broiler on the bottom. It began having issues lighting even though the pilot light was on. Now the burner doesn't light up at...

My Mom has a 1965 Gaffler & Stattler Mark 21 wall mount oven, it had the "Same Problem", People may tell you that the flame switch is no longer avalible but I found a universal fit flame switch at Applance Parts Center, I took the old part in and had it matched up, with a minor modification to the thermal sensor mounting bracket, "drilling a larger hole and lightly crimping it", it's a perfect fit, "problem solved". You may want to try cleaning the pilot light area with a small wire brush first, if that dosn't work try a jumper wire on the two terminals of the flame switch, if that works then replace the flame switch.
This operation can be done without removing the oven from the wall mount, just remove the two screws from the panel at the inside rear of the broiler, you will find the flame switch behind the panel it has two screws two wires a thermo leed and a sensor tip that goes up to the thermo sensor mounting bracket above the pilot light, the thermo sensor mounting bracket has one screw and a nut behind it, you will also need to remove one end of the 1/4" pilot gas pipe in order to remove the thermo sensor mounting bracket, When your done puting it back togather, check for gas leaks using soapy water in a spray bottle, a dish soap solution works great, also check your vent pipe connections.
After I cleaned the dust and grease out of this old thing, the 45 year old clock and timer started working again.
My Mom is very happy, try and find new oven to fit the cutout and vent, we saved a lot of $$$,
"Good Luck".

How do i re ignite the pilot light

Hi

The surface on this range have standing pilots that must be lit initially. To light them:
1. Be sure the surface burner control knobs are in the "OFF" position.
2. Remove the grates and cook top.
3. Locate the pilot ports and light each of them with a match. Replace the cook top and grates.

Light the oven burner pilot in the following manner:
1. Be sure the oven control knob is in the "OFF" position.
2. Remove the broiler carriage.
3. Hold a lighted match at the top forward section of the pilot (See diagram). No adjustment is required.
4. Replace the broiler carriage.
Hope this helps...

Pilot light is lit both on oven and stove top... previous user says to turn on gas and lite "sensor" or "2nd pilot" it stays lit as long as oven knob is on but oven burner does not light. "sensor" goes out...

On standing pilot ovens the maker uses a safety device to kill the gas in case the pilot blows out. As long as the pilot is lit the gas safety magnet hold the gas flap open inside the safety valve. To save energy the pilot has 2 flames. The standby pilot keeps the cooper/nickel probe/sensor warm so the oven will light faster, the 2nd pilot is much larger, only appears when the oven control is turned on and this is what opens that valve. So when you turn the oven knob on the gas leaves the control and goes downtown to burner land. If that pilot is lit and that slow opening flap inside that valve is open, then the gas will enter the burner tube and ignite when it hits the pilot. Pretty slick ain't it? So what can go wrong? With age the flap inside the safety valve will wear out, get weak, work a little, then take forever to light and eventually just goes bye bye. When you get ready to replace the valve it ain't gonna be adjusted exactamundo, you gotta tweak it. To do so after bubble testing for leaks and lighting the pilot you turn it on and observe the flames. It needs to be not more than half way up the flame spreader. If it is to small of a flame it will take forever to bake even a pie shell, if it is too much their could be burned bottom and in some cases fire hazards. OOPs.

Oven

Hey ascollins217
This is normal with a gas range. The oven is lit with an ignitor (the glowing that is seen) - it glows first then the gas comes on and lights up shortly afterwards. There is no clicking sound for the oven (at least not for the model you have)
