Beginner..how much free hard drive space do I need?

Hi there. Just received my new memorex traveldrive and am looking forward to backing my computer up so I can remove some of the files from it and hopefully speed it up a bit!
Plugged the thing in and asked it to backup all my media files (28Gb roughly). The error message I got back tells me I haven't enough memory free to proceed with the backup..
I know I haven't got a lot of space let on my (computers) hard drive but not having done this before I wasn't expecting to need much/any to backup files to an external harddrive..
Can you give me an idea of how much space I'll need to free up before I can do a backup?
Thanks
James

I would first ask how full is you computer's hard drive? Then also, Are you selecting all or mor e than one of your media files to be backed up at the same time?

Normally, 10GB is devoted to programs on a regular size hard drive, therefore, I would suggest that you clear at least this much. How much RAM does your PC have?

I have a Memorex Ultra Drive connected via USB to a Windows XP machine. It shows up in My Computer as a folder but then disappears again. It does this repeatedly. The drive is formated as a FAT32. How...

Hi,

As you have described that your Memorex Ultra Traveldrive re-appears repeatedly, indicates that the communication between your computer and your external hard drive is intermittent. The FAT32 format does not produce these types of issues. What we can do first is identify what causes the problem.

Assuming that the hard drive in your Memorex Ultra Traveldrive is in good shape:

Troubleshooting Method #1. Try connecting your Memorex Ultra Traveldrive into another USB port. If the problem persists, use another USB cable for your external hard drive. If the problem still persists, you will have to replace the external casing of your external hard drive. If your external hard drive works with the other USB port perfectly, most likely, the USB port where you originally plug into of your Windows XP machine needs to be checked. That USB port might need some repairing.

Troubleshooting Method #2. Try connecting the external hard drive into another computer and perform the same troubleshooting as Method #1. If your external hard drive works with other computers perfectly, most likely, the USB port where you originally plug into of your Windows XP machine needs to be checked. The USB port might need some repairing.

If the problem only occurs with your Windows XP machine, assuming all USB ports are in good shape, your Windows XP needs to be checked for some software issues.

I hope this works for you. Kindly reply/comment for further assistance. Good Luck!

Need software for 512mb traveldrive using Windows 7

The TravelDrive is a "plug-and-play" device, and Windows 7 supports Plug-and-Play.
So, any device-drivers are included, and will automatically be used when you connect the TravelDrive.

What problems are you having? Symptoms? Error-messages? Does the TravelDrive work in some other computer? Does any other USB device work in the USB port that you are using for the TravelDrive?

Green light wont stay on on memorex traveldrive

The light signals a connection between the hard disk inside the Traveldrive to its case. If it fails that means that the hard disk is dead. The unit has died, junk it and buy a new one, hard disks can't be repaired.

Things to ponder before deleting

Rather then deleting them right away, try moving the "day the files were uploaded" to another drive. Then try accessing the files on your memorex. Do the files and folders open properly? There not corrupt? Has the memorex hdd drive recreated the folder you just moved? etc...

Once your satisfied that yes there are two copies then you could safely remove one.

Go to "My Computer" and find the page listing all your drives.

RIGHT click on disk of interest then LEFT click on the "properties" near the bottom of the little window that opened. The percentage used and othe info will be there.
