As someone previously reported, I had changed a couple of ink cartridges, and tried to print, only to get the readout, "Unable to Clean, etc." Absolutely no previous problems-has always performed beautifully. I've tried everything the manual suggests, with no success. The LCD panel continues, "Unable to Clean..." Would greatly appreciate anyones thoughts as how to resolve. Thanks, Larry

All was working beautifully, when I changed two cartridges, after which I could not print, but continuiously got the readout "Unable to Clean, etc". I tried everything the manual mentioned, with no success...just a continuous LCD readout of, "Unable to Clean...". I can find no evidence of a jam of any sort. Help from anyone, please. Thanks, Larry

I met the problem in Brother Printer MFC 210c as the panel indicated "Unable to clean". I used the chapter of Routine maintenance in User's Guide and only found "Cleaning the scanner", nothing related to ink parts. I followed the instruction and cleaned the Printer Platen, but did not find White Bar as the figure illustrates at 11-22 page. I checked the ink cartridges, three of which are brand new, and tried to clean the ink heads again. All I did failed me. I don't think I damaged any parts, but don't understand why the printer did not work because of the cleaning issue. I called the local repairing store and the charge would be $75. It is not worth repairing that way. Can someone help me restore the function of the printer instead of getting rid of the seemingly unclean printer? Thanks.

If you have had the printer for quite awhile, it is possible that the overflow container is sensing that the cleaning pads are saturated. This means get it into the shop. An alternative is to power down, shut it off, unplug power, let it rest for a minute. Restart and try a test print and then clean.

Hello and Welcome to FixYa!
"Unable 51" is most likely a print head issue. The print head is what the cartridges sit in inside of the printer. To attempt to resolve it, do the following:

(1) Open the printer
(2) Remove the ink cartridges from the print head.
(3) Use cotton swabs dipped in hot water or a mix of hot water and isopropyl alcohol to thoroughly clean the print head.
(4) Repeat this until there is no ink residue coming off on the cotton swab.
(5) Once finished, allow to dry and replace the cartridges
(6) Try to print something now

Your problem will be solved.

Unable to clean see troubleshooting and routine maintenace chapter in user guide. Do not have user guide to hand.

Unable to clean means the ink absorber box is full. You will need a shop to replace the waste ink absorber box and then reset the waste counter in service mode.
