Re: can't transfer pictures from camera to pc
Have you first installed the Nikon software to your PC before connecting it? You may be using Picture Project, after you install it, try shutting down the PC and restart it, if you installed it correctly and the projects folders you created are there now when you connect the camera should recognize the camera and ask if you want to download the images to the folder you selected. One more thing check for updates for the software too.

If there are no distortions on the picture seen on the camera viewfinder then there is some issue with the picture manager software. If the images seen on the PC are also showing clean pictures, then there fault on the transfer or the camera driver software. Remove the SD card and insert into the PC using the card reader- use in any laptop- if the picture is clean , then uninstall the camera driver and reinstall, then connect to transfer. If the fault is seen the download another version from the camera support site to be installed.
As a part of the download process, most cameras and transfer applications ask you if you want to delete the images off of your camera once they've successfully transferred to your PC. Check the preference setting of the application you're using to transfer the images to your PC. Best way to check is to transfer images to your PC, disconnect the transfer cable and see if the images are still on your camera.
Is the camera recognised by the pc as a usb 'drive'.?? If not try another cable. If another cable does not help, then the fault could be with the camera itself.
Try inserting the card in a separate card reader attached to a pc - if you can see the latest pics taken, then the camera is taking pics ok - and we are back to the transfer problem.
If you can see the pics in your 'my computer' then you can copy or move them onto your pc's hard drive. The fault then could be your Nikon transfer program. Try reloading the software as it may be corrupted on your pc..
First download the latest drivers for your camera, then turn camera on, then hook to USB. (camera screen will look black) while it is hooked to pc. Then transfer your pictures or sync device with media player
If ur aim is to transfer pics from camera to pc then may be u should give mass storage option a try, simple and requires no cd.....in xp ur camera memory will be automatically detected. But for this the mass storage option should be selected in d camera. you'll find it here In Menu=>Setup=>Interface=>USB, select mass storage. connect to ur pc and ur done.
