Directv d-10 i have directv. i have the banner, but black screen and no sound.

Take out the access card and push back in. and then restart the receiver

Please reset the receiver by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds and then when you plug it back in, allow the receiver to reboot and then the picture should come back. DVR keeps restarting / rebooting


Jay .. if you still have the receiver. heres what you do. reset the receiver and when the blue screen comes up saying "Hello your directv receiver is starting up" On your remote type in 0 2 4 6 8 .. then it should go to a screen saying "new software found" . Let it download the update.. That should fix the issue .. However if it doesn't then it could be the hard drive. The pcb board on them usually fries.. but that can be ordered too... let me know how this works... you can email me at pimp_on@yahoo.com

one last thing you can do, if it doesnt work the dvr is dead. reset the dvr and wait for the hello screen and then the screen will go black. when it turns black, hold the down arrow (on the front of the dvr) and the record button for at least 5 secs. this will re-format the hard drive. if it doesnt work the dvr is dead

Direct Tv Receiver No sound Black Screen


unplug the power from the reciever for a few moments. plug it back in and let it load. once its finished turn to channel 201. Usually it the reciever is on an unavailable channel (channel with no programming) when it restarted it will go back to that unavailable channel hince the black screen and no sound.

My r-10 (dtv) dvr won't come out of starting up screen.


Try unplugging it from it's power source for ten seconds, then plug it back in. If it doesn't find its way out of the start up screen after 5 minutes, it might be time to replace it.

Once it goes to the black screen, try pushing the format button on the front of the unit until you get a picture.

How to read dvr messages


From the R10 user's manual:

From time to time DIRECTV may send you messages about updates to your service and other important notices. These messages are important, useful, and easy to find. When your DIRECTV® DVR receives a new message, a message icon ( ) appears on the channel banner and in DIRECTV Central.

To read a message:
1. From DIRECTV Central, select Messages & Setup.
2. Select Messages.
3. Select the message you want to read.

Use the CHAN DOWN button to see text that does not fit on the screen. When you are finished reading a message, select Done or Delete Message. Selecting the message icon in the channel banner will take you to your list of messages. The message list will display “No Messages” if there are no messages to read.

Have questions about your upgrade? We've got the answers. What do I need to do to receive my upgrade? Nothing! Just make sure your DIRECTV HD DVR is continuously connected to your land-based phone line and you will receive the upgrade automatically. When will I receive my upgrade? The 6.3 software upgrade will roll out over a period of several weeks. Customers with more than one DIRECTV HD DVR may receive their upgrades at different times for each receiver. We appreciate your patience while we deliver these new and improved features to eligible DIRECTV HD DVR customers nationwide. Are all DIRECTV DVRs receiving this upgrade? No. DIRECTV DVR models SONY SAT-T60, PHILIPS DSR6000R and HUGHES GXCEBOT will not receive the 6.3 software upgrade. Other models received a similar upgrade, 6.2, in the past. I have a DIRECTV R10 DVR with 6.1 software. Will I receive this upgrade? No. The 6.1 software on the DIRECTV R10 DVR already includes the 6.2 features such as folders and faster menu scrolling. Will any of my DVR settings be changed as a result of the upgrade? Yes, some of your settings or preferences will be changed back to the factory default settings as a result of the upgrade.
