Question about Compaq Presario 7000Z PC Desktop

1 Answer

2 Parts were taken out of my Compaq PC, I need to re-install

Compaq Presario PC 7000 form 2001-2002
Parts Removed:
1. Compaq PCI 10/100 WOL.....&
2. Compaq 2 Port FireWire Video Card - p/n: 170834-103

In the back of my PC there are 7 slots. Currently # 1( at top ) and #3, #4, #6 & #7 are vacant and only 2 & 5 are used. I don't know where I'm to plug the two parts back in.

Also, do 5 empty spaces in the back of my PC indicate that a dope who one ''helped'' me has removed essential things? For instance, my present system doesn't have a typical phone line hook up for dial-up.

Many thanks for your advice.

You can actually place these items in any slot. Some computers come with extra spots for upgrades. So you shouldn't have to worry about that. As for the moden not being there, some manufactures skimp out on the amount of stuff they place in the computer, so basically it may have not even came with one.

Compaq Presario 5220 Desktop Windows 98 internet: Dial-up Can a DSL card be installed or would I need to go with a wireless USB? And would wireless USB work on Win98?

You can install a network card inside the computer. You will need a PCI or an ISA card. (I know PCI network cards are easy to find at most of the computer shops.) See this site for how to install a card: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph07111&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=93139 . However you should open your computer and check the space between the devices in the slots in the computer. There is an AGP slot with a video graphics card, 1 PCI/ISA slot with a modem (default specs), one free ISA slot and one free PCI slot. However depending on the graphics card one of these slots may be blocked by the card. You'll either need to get a card that fits the available slot or remove the modem and use that slot.

Here are some PCI 10/100 network cards: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=587&name=10-100%20Ethernet%20PCI/ISA . Most of these are compatible with Win98. I'm not sure if there are any gigabit NIC with Win98 drivers.

Wired and wireless USB NIC adapters exist. However, you will be limited to the USB speed. If you have USB 1.1, that will be really slow. Most likely your computer will require a reboot anytime the connection is lost.

I hope this helps.

(who recently removed an internal modem to put in a PCI gigabit card in a newer desktop than yours. The procedure was straightforward and improved network performance in the household immensely. The failing on-board NIC was tying up the router for everyone.)

I just need to know if thisHp compaq presario sr2020nx pc desktop is wifi compatible

Yes it is compatible although you will need to fit your own Wifi card. There are two types of card, PCI and USB. To fit a PCI card you will need to open up the PC and install the card into a spare PCI slot. To fit a USB card you simply plug it into any spare external USB socket.

Type of video card

The Compaq Presario SR1630NX desktop computer, has a PCI-Express x16 slot on the motherboard, for a PCI-Express graphics card.

The Presario SR1630NX came out in 2005.
PCI-Express 2.0 technology came out January 15, 2007.

The Presario SR1630NX uses the PCI-Express 1.1 technology.

You can use a graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology, however.

PCI Express 2.0 is Backward Compatible with PCI Express 1.1

You just won't get the full capability, of a graphics card based on the PCI Express 2.0 technology.

Will you notice?

NO

I need a list of compatible video cards that can be installed to upgrade the computer to make it run smoother and assist with games, I also need to know what processors can be installed in it ato upgr

I hope you realize the manufacturer recommends a maximum of 1GB of RAM in this system.

Since the system only has PCI slots, any kind of PCI video card should work without a problem.

Don't do it!!! If you are going to do such an upgrade, buy a PC Case. By the way, you can buy bare bones at Systemax for about $200 and include almost everything needed but the Windows.

Pc tower motherboard upgrade

you can put in any new micro-atx motherboard no problem. I can be 100% sure if the case is Atx full size- best way to check is to see how many pci expansion slots are available at the back of the case. Any Atx case can hold micro-atx mobo's but a micro atx case wont hold atx mobo.
