Maytag french door refigerator won't maintain temperature

- fridge is only 16 months old!

- compressor has been running all morning (put my hand on it)

- vacuumed as much dust as possible form the coils and fan

- fridge is holding at 50 degrees, freezer at 8 deg. (setpoints are at factory defaults - 0 and 38)

- clearance is not a problem

Thanks, but what about the fridge section? It's been over 50 degrees for about 8 hours now, and the temp is not dropping (holding at 52). The blower fan in the fridge section seems to be running. the evaporator fan is blowing room temp air, and the coils are not warm to the touch.

The freezer section has now dropped to 5 degrees (from 8), but there is ice built up on the back wall (have never noticed any ice buildup in the freezer before).

    Thanks

Hello , this can be caused by a few different things.
1- Your unit is not defrosting. check the back wall in the freezer to see if there is any ice/frost on the panel also push on the panel and listen for ice crunching.

2- Your evap. fan is not running. to check if your fan is running open your freezer and hold the freezer door switch down you should here it run or feel the air coming out of the freezer supply vent.

3-Your unit is leaking refrigerant. this is difficult to check but can still be done. take the panel off the lower back of the unit to see the compressor , there are two small tubes going into it one is a bit larger than the other you need to find the smaller one usually on the bottom right looking at the compressor , this line goes to the condenser coil that you cleaned the dust off of , with the unit running for at least 5 minutes grab this line about 5-6 inches away from where it comes out of the comp. it may take a few seconds to feel how warm/hot it is but be carefull they can get hot. if this line is hot the refrigerant charge should be ok , if its room temp. or very close than your unit has leaked its refrigerant.

Please let me know if you have any further questions on this , I would like to hear how it turns out.
Phil

Check evap system, ensure that the fan is starting and working, and that there is no ice formation on the coils.

If there is ice on the coils or inside the fridge, unplug it and leave it defrosting overnight.

If the compressor is always on, and the fridge reaches temperatures lower than normal, and evap. system is working, then it is a defective thermostat.

If the compressor is always working, and tem does not get low enough, then you need to replace the compressor, or recharge freon. No matter if the Fridge is only 16 months old.

The compressor is under warranty for three years. Call the number listed on the owners manual to get assistance.

    Hi there, I quote:

"The freezer section has now dropped to 5 degrees
(from 8), but there is ice built up on the back wall (have never
noticed any ice buildup in the freezer before)."

Do a defrost overnight,k if you still have the following:

"Thanks, but what about the fridge section? It's been over 50 degrees
for about 8 hours now, and the temp is not dropping (holding at 52).
The blower fan in the fridge section seems to be running. the
evaporator fan is blowing room temp air, and the coils are not warm to
    the touch."

Tehn it is either low freon (leak) or bad compressor.

Get a new compressor from factory and have it installed if situation did not improve after defrost.

Your compressor is low on freon...if you dont have it serviced soon you wont have a refrigerator to have fixed. once they lose all their freon they are no good and you said the compressor has been running allmorning which can create a heat problem for the area surrounding the compressor and could cause a fire. you need to get someone there soon

This sounds like u have a refrigerant leak or a compressor failing, that is the only thing that would account for constant run and the high temps.

The freezer temperature increases by about 20 degrees during the defrost cycle. This is normal and doesn't affect the quality of the food in your freezer.

Refigerator is freezing food

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat. It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge. Locate the thermostat and replace it. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! hopefully you looked out back ...rear lower panel and checked little white condenser fan running...it really needs too to keep temp stable across the condenser coils and no overheat condition to the compressor.hopefully you wont need the $300 circuit board like I just bought

at 5 months old don't try to fix it yourself CALL the store where it was purchased or maytag
you may mess up the warranty if you try to fix it yourself
document all of the calls you make to where and who you spoke with at what time
ask for promises in writing have them fax it to you so you have the promise in hand

This sounds like you have a Maytag Ice2O. You need to find out if that cound is a relay/overoad failure on the compressor or the compressor going out. I can say from experience that some of those have a tecumsie comprossor in them and the do tend to fail. If you hear a loud electrical humming sound coming from the compressor and your getting a warm up then you need to record this sound on some kind of sound recorder and call a Whirlpool warrenty certified tech. out to look at it if it's less than 5 years old from perchase date then Whirlpool will pick up the part and labor bill of a compressor installation also check your owners manual for warrenty details. Hit me up let me know.

Freezer/Refigerator not working

You need to check if the compressor is running. If it is not the relay on the compressor might be blown out. That is a very comon part on whirlpool made units. Unplug the unit and remove the cover on the compressor and take the relay off. If you shake it and you hear a lot of noise from it like small rocks the relay is bad. Its not a expensive part ti replace.
