That's a bit of a loaded question. Are you partitioning a desktop or laptop? Is Windows already installed? Is Windows installed on a different drive than the one you're partitioning?

Easy. Just be careful and read everything! Download Partition Logic, burn it to a disk and reboot to it. If using XP your good to go, if your using Vista read the notes they have about it. Hope that helps.

I guess your gonna reinstall Windows, is it showed up as unallocated space ?

I've it is, format it to NTFS, and your done.

Hi i made a partition on my hard drive and when i turned my laptop back on i get this message, non system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready can you help please thanks ross

if you create a new partition on your hard drive with anything but partition magic or something similar, the process of creating the partition will wipe all data from the entire hard drive to resize the partition. you will probably need to re-install Windows fresh unless the utility you used just happens to have an undo (not very likely) playing with partition sizes of used drives is not advisable.

Pls help me to partition my hard disk drive as c and D

If the computer is already running with Windows, then you can use a program called Partition magic to partition the C drive into two partitions - a C and a D drive.
If you are installing Windows from scratch then you can use the Windows installation CD to install Windows. When the Windows installation begins, delete the existing partition, then create a new partition but size the 1st partition (C drive) to what you require and continue with the installation.
When Windows has finished installing you can create the D drive by opening Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management - click on the un-partitioned portion of the hard disk, create a extended partition - and then format this partition in NTSF When completed Disk 1 will be shown as Healthy (system)

My hp touchsmart 300 hard drive went out i got another hard drive but it needs to be formatted and pratitioned but i cant figure out how to do that

  • Start the computer in Command Prompt Mode. Type "FDISK." The partition window will appear with menu options. Enter 5 if you're partitioning a second drive, and select the drive; otherwise, skip to the next step. Enter 1 (Create DOS Partition or Logical DOS Drive). Enter 2 (Create Extended DOS) to create a partition. Enter N when the program asks if you want to use the maximum available size. Designate the amount of disk space to allocate to the second partition (the partition will be assigned the next drive letter) Type a name for the new partition and press Enter. The partition menu will appear. Repeat steps 5 through 8 to create additional partitions. Press Esc to exit the partition command. Format the newly created partitions

How to create a logical drive in windows vista home basic?

You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
To create a partition or volume (the two terms are often used interchangeably) on a hard disk, there must be either unallocated (empty) space on the hard disk or free space within an extended partition on the hard disk.
If there is no unallocated space, you can create some by shrinking an existing partition, deleting a partition, or by using a third-party partitioning program. For more information, see Can I repartition my hard disk? For more information about reformatting a hard disk, see the "What is reformatting?" section below.

The master boot record maybe be corrupted or virus infected.
To fix the MBR, boot up with your DOS disk and type fdisk /mbr
Then install XP, and delete all partitions and then create a new partition, then do a full NTFS format on the new partition.
