Question about TV Receivers & DVRs

Surround sound speaker outlets are not working

Certain speaker wire inputs are not working at all. For example my leftfront speaker wont work and my right surround speaker won't work anddon't emit any sound even when testing the speakers. I have a onkyoht-r500 and this is the first problem I have had in the last 5 yearsI've had it.

By the way all the speakers work properly individually so it must be those certain speaker inputs.

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I have the same problem. What I was told is to check to make sure that all your connections are not loosely plugged into the outlets. Or buy a surge protector which might help some.

How to connect my JVC Audio/video control receiver digital surround sound system

Hi,
Need to know how to set up a surround sound system? It's fairly easy, with the right equipment. Surround sound gives you that "theater" feel in your own home.
For more information on optimizing the sound of your chosen system visit:
http://www.ehow.com/how_3393_set-surround-sound.html.
To set up a surround sound system go to:
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/219978.html.

Additionally,Some people prefers a wire diagram to connect their surround sound system. The basic concept to connect any audio system is to follow the path of sound from its origin to its final output stage, either headphones or speakers. There are other basic premises to follow, such as the impedance of the speakers and the output of the amplifier, but the concept is to start with an input and terminate each input to an output somewhere on the amplifier unit.
A wire diagram shows a picture that represents where each of these wires would go in considerably little detail. One example would be that a television set starts with a signal from somewhere, broadcast or cable, and comes out of that antenna and goes into the surround sound amplifier. The sound is processed in some way and the video is output to the television set and the audio is output to the speakers or headphones. Although complicated in textual from, most find that a wire diagram is much easier to follow.

Box does not recognize hdmi

Hello, Daniel Busa with Dish Network here. The easiest way to tell if your box has a bad hdmi port onthe backm, is to remove the hdmi cord from the receiver and connect it to a blue ray player or other device. If it works the port is most likely bad. Otherwise I would recommend a hard reset, if you have a surround sound receiver cycle the inputs on it and make sure everything is on the proper input/source.

What is the Panorama, c-width and the dimension effects on my receiver?

copied from av-r720 pdf manual:
C-WIDTH : This sets the width of the centre image. The higher the setting, the less sound comes from the centre speaker.
• DIMENSION : Incrementally adjusts the sound field (DSP)from the front or surround.
• PANORAMA : This mode extends the front stereo image to include the surround speakers for an exciting "wraparound" effect with side wall imaging.

How do i wire up my phillips surround system to my freesat hd box

Hook free sat up like you normally would and either 1. if it has a second audio output, just run that to your input on the surround sound. or 2. use audio output on tv to surround. or 3. get two A\V splitter cords. Its a cord with two male ends on one end and one female on the other. Just put the splitters on the audio wires from the free sat, and run one to the tv and one to the surround

Setting up receive set top box and tv for surround sound

Plug the TV to an open channel on your receiver via this output:
*Rear, 1 x Digital audio output (coaxial) ( TOSLINK )
This will look like a single RCA output plug.
Set that input channel on your receiver to some sort of virtual surround mode because it doesn't look like your HDTV has a decoder in it (meaning it will come out stereo and the receiver will have to fake it).
Turn the volume all the way down on the TV and use the receiver to control TV volume just as you do with DVDs.

*Substitute this with the digital audio output on your set top box if you are sending video only to the TV from the set top box (component, DVI or s-video connections). So video goes to the TV, audio to the receiver.

Center speaker will not work

If you had the Speakers Set to A (not B) and no headphones connected when you pressed the TEST TONE button on the Onkyo HT-R540 (also known as the HTS-790) remote, and you had no sound from the Center Speaker then try the following steps. 1) Check the Center Speaker wiring at both ends under a bright light and make sure that there is not a strand of wire touching the Receiver Chassis or another speaker post. Check both + and - . If that looks okay, 2) unscrew the Center Speaker Post connections on the Receiver and verify that the bare stripped wire is making contact. Often, the insulation is too far into the connector. When screwed down, the wire's insulation is crushed and keeps the bare wire from making contact. If this looks okay and the unit is under Warranty, your last test is to: 3) temporarily swap the wires from the Center Speaker with the Right Front Speaker. Turn the volume down low and try the TEST TONE button again. If you now hear sound from the Center Speaker box itself and none from the Right Speaker box, then the Receiver is the problem. If you still do not hear sound from the Center Speaker box, then the Center speaker itself is defective.
