m-error means mechanical error, it is caused by faulty gear and lever assemblies under the cd loading carousel . it is very hard to get to those so i do not recommend this repair to be attempted by non-technicians. i fixed lots of them, it was the most common problem in those units

Since this piece of stereo equipment is from the 80's, it will be tough to find replacement parts for it. You may be able to find another Fisher TAD 9315 on eBay or the like, and you could use the parts from it to fix yours. With this unit being so old, you are probably going to have more problems than this even if this problem gets fixed.
I would recommend upgrading this device to a new model, or you could bring this in to a stereo shop that is familiar with repairing these. The only parts for this system that I could find are 2 Square Rubber belts and a Remote Control.
If you are good at working on electronics, I would open it up and check the gears for any broken teeth, check the belts, etc.
