Whether or not the motherboard is smoked depends upon what happened to cause the power jack to get broken in the first place. I know that if sent to HP, they would not spend any time attempting to fix the jack, they would replace the motherboard. If the jack has come loose from the board without damaging the traces, it is possible to repair this quite simply. That assumes that you bring the unit to a shop that regularly repairs surface mounted boards. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF.

Sorry about the capital letters, but it is important to note that an improper repair attempt can completely ruin the motherboard.

Please update this with your location and I will try to find a servicer in your area.

Laptop sometimes switches off when moved.

Sounds like a loose connection where the laptop opens and closes hinge there are wires that run from the main screen to the main board. If you know how to take the unit apart it maybe a cheap fix if not then a new laptop maybe the way to go the prices have really dropped from 4 years ago

Problem with HP 8510q laptop charging. Charging not working. Laptop working only that time when i have power in battery. Charging light not show. I try other charger but same problem. Is it inside some...

Inside? Yes. (If 'charger' is good)
Fuse?
No

Diagnostic flowchart:

A) AC adapter (Charger), has to be KNOWN to be good, before going on.
Used on a working laptop to see, or multimeter is used to check Voltage (DC)

The plug end that goes to the laptop, from the AC adapter, has a Center Hole, and a cylindrical outside metal shell.

The Function knob is set to DC Voltage. If just a symbol, the symbol is a dotted line over a solid line.
If more than one DC Voltage scale, the Function knob is set to the 0-50 Volt DC scale.

The Positive (Red) probe lead of the multimeter goes to the Center Hole, and the Negative (Black) probe lead of the multimeter, goes to the cylindrical outside metal shell.

You should be reading 19 Volts DC.

Also have an assistant gently wiggle the cable FROM AC adapter TO laptop, and the power cable TO AC adapter.
If there is a fluctuation on the reading, there is a broken wire, or wires, in one of those cables.

B) Check the DC Power Jack.
This is the jack on the laptop (DC_IN) that the AC adapter plugs into.

Has a Center Pin, and an inner cylindrical metal shell.
Battery removed, use an eraser on the end of a No.2 pencil, and see if you can GENTLY wiggle the Center Pin around.

ANY perceptible movement of the CENTER PIN, means replacing the DC Power Jack,
(By the way, is it an 8510p, or 8510w?)

http://www.alldcjacks.com/en/ppj052-laptop-dc-power-jack.html

Any movement of the rest of the DC Power Jack (Body), means replacing it; or may just mean the solder joints are cracked, and can be re-soldered.

C) AC adapter and DC Power Jack checks out?
Problem may be with Power MOSFET's on the motherboard, and associated MLCC's.

(Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor, and they are SMD/SMT just like the Power MOSFET's.
Surface Mount Device/ Surface Mount Technology)

My HP G60-235DX is 2 years old. I recently upgraded to a 12 volt battery. Since then I have fried 2 ac adapters. What do I need to be purchasing in order for this computer to charge without the adapter...

sounds like you might have to resolder your dc power jack on the motherboard. after time they get hot and the solder breaks down so the resistance gets higher meaning the dc jack is having to work very hard to handle the current

dv2000/dv6000/dv9000 recall
I have an out of warranty dv9000 and haven't had wireless for months. I just discovered HP issued a recall for the wireless and other problems with several different Pavilion and Presario models. For the wireless problem with the dv9000 they are replacing the motherboard on all notebooks in or out of warranty. I was wondering if anyone has had the repair done under the recall and how it turned out? I'm also wondering if HP is still cosmetically trashing notebooks when they are sent in for repair?
Here is the link for the recall:

My HP DV9000 will not boot, although it has power and the power button is lighted. It stopped working suddenly.Several months before this the WiFi quit, although the Bluetooth still worked.

Sounds like you may have a motherboard issue or a memory issue. If you feel comfortable doing it, remove the memory from the bottom of the case (you will see the memory compartment door has a little memory logo on it). Remove the memory and replace them one at a time, alternating to see if there is improved performance. If you do not feel comfortable doing this you should consult your local IT professional.

Hp laptop pavilion acts like it's booting up but screen is blank?

May I ask what model it is?

The dv9000 model if you havent been told had some that had bad motherboards and that sounds like what mine problem was.

If its a dv9000 then you may want to talk to a HP agent about that.

Have you checked whether the Power Adapter of your Notebook is a 65 Watt or 90 Watt ??

If you are connecting a 65 Watt adapter with the Notebook, try wiht a 90 watt one from any other Notebook if available..

Notebooks with Nvidia Graphic card need a 90 Watt Power adapter to supply the adaquent power required for the Graphic Card and a 65 Watt adapter may not be able to supply the required power.

I had the exact same problem so I called HP support. The instructions were- remove power cord from lap top if power cord is connected, then remove battery, connect power cord to lap top then turn on lap top by holding power button down for 30 seconds. It booted up, no problem. The proceedure is to remove static electricity.
