Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook
I was told by HP that when the power jack goes it fries the motherboard. My notebook is 18 months old. This is bull .........! Any body else have this problem?
Whether or not the motherboard is smoked depends upon what happened to cause the power jack to get broken in the first place. I know that if sent to HP, they would not spend any time attempting to fix the jack, they would replace the motherboard. If the jack has come loose from the board without damaging the traces, it is possible to repair this quite simply. That assumes that you bring the unit to a shop that regularly repairs surface mounted boards. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS YOURSELF.
Sorry about the capital letters, but it is important to note that an improper repair attempt can completely ruin the motherboard.
Please update this with your location and I will try to find a servicer in your area.
