Question about Canon Rebel XT / EOS 350D Digital Camera

Digital Rebel Canon Camera won't power up

Smells like an electrical burn inside of the battery area. I was using in cold conditions (35 degrees) but I don' think that has anything to do with it. Recharged battery and again and still nothing.

I have had the same experience with a 30D with the smell and I was not outside. I heard a faint sizzle sound & there was an electrical smell. Now my camera for some reason will just drain the batteries even if it's not in use. New battery will only last about 12 hours then it's dead. I have to remove them if I'm not using, but the camera still works. I get the err 99 message with popup flash. Canon says 435.00 will fix it, go figure.

I was in the middle of taking pictures and it just went dead (although the battery hadn't shown it was low). This happened one other time and I thought it was a goner because I charged the battery and still nothing. But a few days later I went to show someone and guess what? It worked just fine and has been now for many months of consistent use. So tonight though - I recharged the battery and still nothing. I'm inclined to wait a little longer, recharge and try again... but I swear the battery compartment is warm to the touch... So I will leave the battery out for now. Sounds like this may be it for this camera (too expensive to fix) which would be really sad because I have really enjoyed it over the last 3 years. :(

The cold probably does relate to the problem -- when the camera gets cold, then comes inside, condensation (water) collects in lots of nasty places, including the battery contacts. Water can cause all sorts of problems that result in a poor connection between the battery and the camera. The smell is a result of an arc (spark) -- not good, but sometimes fixable. There is probably something like rust (most likely oxidized copper or aluminum) on the contacts. Something rough like a metal nail file should help remove the oxidation (rust) -- turn the camera upside down so the powder falls out. If you can clean off the contacts so they are shiny again, and also on the battery contacts, you might be back in business.

You may need to replace the battery -- if it has shorted out, chances are it won't recharge properly. A BP-11 battery (doesn't need to be Canon branded) is around $15 or less. However, if the battery charger says the battery is charged, and there's no evident oxidation on the contacts, battery is probably fine.

It could be worse. If so, a local camera shop can probably give you the bad new more gently than I :-{

My rebel t3i wont turn on!!!

I just bought a T3i and only used it 2 days of shooting. On third day, it's not turning on and it's 80 degree's. So not cold weather. Batteries are fully charged. When I put batter in and turn the switch on, the red light comes on for only a second and then nothing! Other times the red light won't even come on, period. As I said, I've only had it 3 days and it's dead....

My rebel xsi won't turn on. there is nothing. I used it yesterday and it was fine. I changed the battery and still nothing! HELP!

Hi please try to do this and let me know. Remove the battery and give a look inside the battery compartment with spot light. Make sure that place are clean and there no damaged mark. Specially look the Battery connector pins. That should in proper place , not bend, not even sulfur layer there. Use ear buds and drop of alcohol for cleaning. After checking if every thing Ok then some how the power supply not able to connect the circuit board. Its happens when the connectivity cable disconnected or damaged, circuit board short or the power transformer stop working. For all this internal fault part confirmation you need to visit electronic repair center.

but before visit for repairing make sure the battery which one you use that's is fully charged with working condition. Thank you

I have a Canon EOS 630, 35-135 ultrasonic lens and a 300EZ canon flash. I want to get the new Rebel T2i and was wondering if I can use my old flash and lens and have all the TTL and auto focusing features...

Different technology between your film camera and the digital era The flash won't synchronize properly with the new digital you will need an EX type flash the 35-135 will work but because the digital has a focal factor of 1.6 compared to your 35-135 it will become a 56-216mm. Keep your EOS 630 as a back up to the digital.

Battery life has shortened considerably, whats the problem

Batteries lose capacity with age. Eventually they fail altogether. Might be a good time to get a spare.

Canon say this camera gets about 600 shots per charge at 68 degrees Fahrenheit, dropping to about 450 at 32 degrees, so cold weather can be a factor. Also using the flash a lot can reduce the number of shots by a third or more. As winter approaches, both cold weather and more frequent use of flash are likely (gets dark earlier).

My Canon Rebel XT was recently used in cold weather and left in a car for hours ( 4 degrees). Now, with a fully charged battery, it won't power on. Any ideas as to what the problem and solution is?

It seems tha moisture got in your camera and affected it.

If won't power one, then such symptom indicate a malfunction on the DC/DC voltage converter circuitry, and the camera has two of them located in different boards.

In order to perform a correct diagnostics and repair of it, it is necessary to open such camera and perform it by a qualified camera repair technician.

If it's under warranty, I do recommend you to send it back to make valid the warranty.

If not, then you have the options of pay for its repair, or do it yourself if you are willing tgo open it and perform some basic diagnostics of the failure. You will need tools to do it, which includes the usage of a soldering iron.

Best regards,
