Question about Kenmore 53642 / 53644 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kenmore 106.63854302 Coldspot is not holding temperatures

The motor is running, the fan comes on, and we cleaned out the compressor at the bottom. The freezer seems to be holding between 25-35 degrees, regardless of the setting, and the fridge is also getting warmer. This has been going on for about 10 days. After the cleaning, the freezer did get cooler for a couple days, but now both fridge and freezer are warm again. The fridge is only 5 years old. My question is whether it is worth it to call in a repairman, or just buy a new one and stay away from Kenmore.

I'm not sure. When I open the door or change the setting, I can hear the fan kick in. My brother-in-law came over to clean the compressor and checked all the parts. He didn't see anything obviously not running.

I did call a repairman, and it turned out to be a faulty thermostat. It was a pricey part, but worth the fix and cheaper than a new fridge! Thanks for your suggestions.

if the fan near the compressor is not running it will not get cold enough.

What do I need to fix a cycling compressor fan in my Kenmore refrigerator?

The compressor fan is powered by the same contractor/relay as the compressor. It should run the same time. If it is stopping, then either an electrical problem exists or the bearings are dried up and it overheats and the internal thermal safety is kicking it out.. You could try lubricating the shaft of the motor but I suggest replacing it.

Refrigerator has stopped cooling. fan still running and compressor is warm. what is wrong?

Several things could be wrong. The simplest is that the coils under the refrigerator are dirty with dust and need cleaning; or other parts may not be working properly. Go to the link below for a video that discusses the operation and various components of the refrigerator. Good luck. Kenmore Refrigerator Not Cold Enough

Kenmore elite coldspot model 106.74219400 freezes in the fridge never gets above 5 or 10 degrees and it never shuts off.

there is a flap in the refrigerator side usually near or behind the light bulb the freezer side is thermostatically controlled with the compressor being controlled. On the refrigerator side the cold air comes from the freezer side. when this flap is open the refrigerator will cool continuously, Check the flap or the duct assembly
here is an illustration of the part

Kenmore Coldspot not keeping cold. Ice in freezer

What are your temp controls set to? If the controls are set to the max setting and it won't reach temp, you could have a broad range of problems ranging from bad door gaskets, to bad temp controls, to a low refrigerant charge, to possible a failing mechanical part such as a fan motor or compressor.

Bottom drawer of the refrigerator freezes the fruit.

I think the thermostat is faulty. Thus it makes the freezer extra cold. Try replacing it. Regards, Nandini.

Kenmore Coldspot Side by Side Model 51559101

Unplug the Ref for 15-20 min., plug it back in and listen for the compressor to start. You will need to be behind the Ref so you can tell if the compressor or the fan is running. It will help to take the cover off so you can see the compressor.
Compressor not running but you hear a clicking noise. The relay needs to be replaced.
Compressor runs but not cooling. Low on coolant

The compressor on my Sears Coldspot is running at 175 degrees.

Refrigeration compressors used in domestic refrigeration are known as high side compressors, meaning the dome is at high side pressure and temperature.

As long as the condenser fan was running, and the coil was as clean as you could get it, then all is OK. There is no standard temperature that it runs at, and it has been tested to run hot anyway. The fact that you cleaned underneath will allow it to run a little cooler anyway.
