Question about Kenmore 53642 / 53644 Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Kenmore 106.63854302 Coldspot is not holding temperatures

The motor is running, the fan comes on, and we cleaned out the compressor at the bottom. The freezer seems to be holding between 25-35 degrees, regardless of the setting, and the fridge is also getting warmer. This has been going on for about 10 days. After the cleaning, the freezer did get cooler for a couple days, but now both fridge and freezer are warm again. The fridge is only 5 years old. My question is whether it is worth it to call in a repairman, or just buy a new one and stay away from Kenmore.

I'm not sure. When I open the door or change the setting, I can hear the fan kick in. My brother-in-law came over to clean the compressor and checked all the parts. He didn't see anything obviously not running.

I did call a repairman, and it turned out to be a faulty thermostat. It was a pricey part, but worth the fix and cheaper than a new fridge! Thanks for your suggestions.

What do I need to fix a cycling compressor fan in my Kenmore refrigerator?

The compressor fan is powered by the same contractor/relay as the compressor. It should run the same time. If it is stopping, then either an electrical problem exists or the bearings are dried up and it overheats and the internal thermal safety is kicking it out.. You could try lubricating the shaft of the motor but I suggest replacing it.

Refrigerator has stopped cooling. fan still running and compressor is warm. what is wrong?

Several things could be wrong. The simplest is that the coils under the refrigerator are dirty with dust and need cleaning; or other parts may not be working properly. Coldspot 1069430411 evaporator fan not coming on while compressor is running and not circulating the cold air. Also, neither light comes on when doors are open, both bulbs new. New defrost timer, new...

Typically there is a sensor or thermostat sensing the return line (suction line) temperature after defrost, the switch turns the evaporator fan on and off based on temperature, your post suggests either the fan is being powered and not running or the thermostat that turns it on may have failed.

Kenmore Coldspot not keeping cold. Ice in freezer

What are your temp controls set to? If the controls are set to the max setting and it won't reach temp, you could have a broad range of problems ranging from bad door gaskets, to bad temp controls, to a low refrigerant charge, to possible a failing mechanical part such as a fan motor or compressor.

I think the thermostat is faulty. Thus it makes the freezer extra cold. Try replacing it. Regards, Nandini.

The compressor on my Sears Coldspot is running at 175 degrees.

Refrigeration compressors used in domestic refrigeration are known as high side compressors, meaning the dome is at high side pressure and temperature.

As long as the condenser fan was running, and the coil was as clean as you could get it, then all is OK. There is no standard temperature that it runs at, and it has been tested to run hot anyway. The fact that you cleaned underneath will allow it to run a little cooler anyway.
