Carrier heat pack is making noises and has brning smell thru vent

The heating system makes a grinding like noise(not all the time) but when it does it also has a burning smell thru the vents. We have had 2 service calls and of course it doesn't make the noise when they come. They don't seem to see anything wrong, but have reccommended us replacing several parts. Any ideas on what is making this noise.

Why won't my carrier furnace come back on?model number 58rav095.It was running and heating, but makes a horrible noise on start up.Is it the motor going out?

If the noise is coming from the fan coil unit then it could be the blower motor. If the bearings are failing it will make noise on start up and run. But after a period of time it will overheat and the overload protection switch will lock it out to keep it from running until it cools down.

I have a new home 1 yr and when the furnace kicks in, I am assuming the fan it makes a noise but as soon as the heat starts the noise is gone, could this be the furnace blower

Check by turning the unit off and turn the fan to on. Do you hear the noise now? The noise your hearing could be coming from your combustion fan assembly instead. Newer furnaces have a in-shot burner and are nosier than the old style of heater.

If it is making noise, the motor may be ready to give out. The pressure switch could be faulty, but it sounds as if you need to replace the vent motor if you can find a replacement. Otherwise you've got to replace the entire vent.

Carrier Natural Gas Pack: Smell & Soot on exhaust tube

Time for a good cleaning. Make sure the heat exchanger is in good shape and is getting good heat flow over it to the exhaust. The odor may be an indication of a restriction in the heat exchanger, the flames are hitting something, improper air or gas adjustment or a blower not coming up to correct speed. You can access the heating unit from a side panel. Look for the exhaust port and start with that panel. Wasps nests are predominant in these things.

HEATER MAKING LOUD NOISES

Check the draft inducer motor for any partial blockages or dibri.

I've seen sticks, birds nest particles and pieces of deteriorating fan blades (squirrel cage type fans) cause this.

You might also find that the inducer motors bearing are going.

If its a loud vibrating grinding type noise, I'd suspect bearings or missing pieces of the blades. (unbalanced)
If it's a clanking type noise I'd suspect loose items hitting the fan.

The inducer motor will only operate right before and during burner operation, while the blower motor can operate at any time depending on your setting.

My Carrier 58dxc is making a loud noise

If your turning on heat and the unit is knocking and blowing cold air, your compressor is having problems in heat mode, could be reversing valve. A tech is needed in your situation. Getting the prob fixed right away will save you dollars..

AC tonage

3 ton (36,ooo Btu). Prior to spending money for a new system, get it checked out by a technician. If it does need replacing, check out the Infinity series by Carrirer. It will cut you heating and cooling costs by a third.
