Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Motor hums but door will not open or close.

I have a 1/2 HP Craftman Part #41A4315-7A (5-94) HBQ0777, garage door opener. I am told by Sears that this is an old opener and no longer available. I would like to know what would be compatable with this motor so I don't have to replace the whole thing. There are two big springs that are pulled by cable on either side of the door and one chain in the middle of the door.

Well Good thing is that sears openers have not changed much int eh way they are hooked up. If you have a chain drive you can pretty much buy and chain drive sears opener and it should bolt right up. But you might have to run safety sensors as of 1993 they have to be on all openers. Also if you are going to do a motor head change out make sure your chain and door are in the closed position. All openers will start up once they are plugged in

Have you increased the WORK setting on the unit? springs get weaker over time, and the opener must be adjusted.
Look on the rear of the unit for an adjustment knob labeled WORK or FORCE.
Increase the setting, and re-try.

The 'down limit' on the side of the motor housing is what needs to be adjusted. Turn this control in the opposite direction of the arrow printed on the cover. I usually adjust this so it stops short by quite a bit and then fine tune it.

Check to make sure you don't have a broken door spring. Also remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is white nylon and is just in front of the motor. It may be going bad and if it is it will be obvious. On the rear of the motor unit you will find the 'up force' adjustment. Increase this a bit and try.

Sears Craftman Garage door opener model # 41a3493-1. Does it have auto reverse?

That isn't the model number you give it is the part number for the logic board. The model number is on the opposite end of the motor unit and starts with 139. If you are asking if the opener should reverse when it hits an obstacle the answer is yes. If it doesn't it is not adjusted correctly or is faulty.

Craftman Garage Door Opener Quit Working.

It could be a bad logic board especially if you have had any electrical storms in the area. I would remove and check the logic board for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board.

Craftman garage opener

The blinking LED is sending the code for "RPM sensor or motor overload. It isn't the motor or it wouldn't run at all. The RPM sensor is a small printed circuit board near the front of the motor. It will be available at Sears or any good door opener service company.
