Question about Sewing Machines

Open Question

I have an old Viking Eaton sewing machine that isnt working corectly.

Last week I set up my machine and it worked fine, I didnt change anything but now it wont work. When I go to sew with it the top thread doesnt sew it just unthreads itself from the needle. I retreaded the whole machine and it still wont work at all. I even ajusted the tensions on the bobbin and machine, with no change.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: not sewing - jamming

Could it be that the feed dogs are down? I also have the 15358 and when I opened the bobbin area to clean it, I had this problem. Apparently, when you open the clips around the outside of the casing, it pushes the lever that adjusts the feed dogs to the right (lowering them). I didn't even realize it at first. Check your manual for adjusting this lever to raise the feed dogs. That might solve your problem.

SOURCE: Top thread won't pick up the bobbin thread

re insert the needle, maybe you did not put the needle up as far as it is to go. Make sure the flat side of the needle is to the back of the machine. Without any thread in the machine hand turn the wheel and look to see if the hook of your bobbin would/could catch the thread (to see if timing is right)
then thread the machine and hand turn the wheel and see what it is doing.
Your timing might be off, but I do not think that is likely. Though it is possible that when the needle fell out, it hit something hard, broke, and pushed the machine out of timing. then you need to bring it in.

Can a dressmaker sewing machine, ca. 1975, sew a consistent 1/4" seam? My new Viking Saphire and old Kenmore do an awful job so I'm trying to find a better machine for quilt making.

professional machines are only better at sewing thicker fabrics-faster theyowever have difficulties doing fine work (there not made for that) I like the old Viking machines , and you cant discount the old sears machines as well , in fact unless there is an obvious flaw with them (bent parts), I cant see why they cant sew straight stitches , try using one of those stick on reference line tapes to help the operator guide the fabric straighter into the machine

Husqvarna viking sewing machine bobbin

Could the part number be 4011770? I've found the Viking 7 bobbins here: http://www.mysewingmachineparts.com/top-quality-metal-sewing-machine-bobbins-4011770-husqvarna-viking/ . Another site with them is http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-viking-4011770.aspx . This bobbin is compatible with the Husqvarna Viking 7, 49, 51, 52, 21 & 21E . It probably will work for other machines. Sears also has them listed as 11770: http://www.sears.com/generic-viking-sewing-machine-bobbins-sewing-machine/p-SPM6124767105?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1 .

I also found these bobbins: http://www.amazon.com/Viking-Metal-Bobbins-5-pkg/dp/B000YZ5QSC . The part number appears to be 1702.

I hope this helps.

It could be the touch panel or the main board. The touch panel ribbon connector could be loose but not likely. Needs to be diagnosed by a good tech. for Viking.

The large wheel on the side of the machine that pulls out to thread a bobbin is probably pulled out. Push it in and the rest of the features should work.

Needle doesn't move the problem isn't the foot pedal

I have a Husqvarna #1 that I also love. My needle stopped moving too. I was convinced it was the foot peddle but a repair person sais it was not. I discovered on my own that indeed it is the cord on the foot peddle. I suspect it has a loose wire because when I wiggle it where it connects to the machine it starts working again. Right now this is what I have to do because I can't find a replacement peddle. Can anybody help me find one?

Needle won't change position

MMMM got me foxed, will look into it and see if I can come up with a solution.........watch this space. Only comment I can make is computer controlled machines can be a nightmare, old mechanicals are easier to fix and cheaper.
