Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Dell dimension 2400 desktop primary drive 0 not found, primary drive 1 not found. keyboard error.

This happened 2 days after I tried updating my drivers from dell.com. The computer has had no problems other than being sluggish many times. Could there be a connection. F1 only beeps twice, F2 works, F12 come up but puts me back to F1 F2. I tried changing IDE cable, battery, checked all plugs, played in BIOS, os disc runs but can't do anything without drivers. If the HD is gone can I run off a portable USB HD. Is there anything else I can try?

You might try another keyboard before trying anything else.

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL. http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules
Only work inside the computer case when the power has been switched off and disconnected. Never open the power source. Some of the below steps recommend removing physical parts within the computer. While in the computer it is highly recommend that you be aware of ESD and its potential hazards Test your PSU power supply unit or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/f/powersupplytest.htm Remove the memory modules from their slots. Take the opportunity to clean the slots on the motherboards and the memory module connectors. Use compressed air to blow dust away and clean contacts with a soft cloth. Do not use a metallic vacuum cleaner if it touches any component it may create a short and cause damage to the motherboard or other components. Do not use solvent that may attract dust and never poke things like cotton buds in to slots. lightly rub an alcohol on a cloth not to hard let the alcohol do the work on the copper gold or silver tabs and r Allow the pins to dry. They will air dry in a matter of minutes. If reseating the memory did not resolve the issue try swapping the location of the memory. If you have only one stick of memory in the computer try moving it to another slot and then boot the computer. Check the memory module and memory slot contacts. They are either copper tin or gold. The colour will tell you which they are. Mixing tin and gold can result in corrosion that prevents proper contact. Look for any sign of physical damage to the memory module, memory slots or the motherboard. Reseat the memory modules. You should hear an audible click when they are in place. Do not use too much force to reseat the memory module in to the slot this can cause damage to the module, slot or motherboard. The hardware that you are trying to access is damaged or failing.

The device drivers for the hardware are faulty or incompatible. Could be a problem with the Hard Drive or the Hard drives PCB http://www.onepcbsolution.com/ There is a connection problem such as a bad cable for internal hard drives
Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA
the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty if its a flat 40pin ide this will be the first to fail Make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd and floppy (If Applicable) have secure connections and are not faulty. or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Dell Dimensions 2400 Primary Drive 0 Not Found

For this problem it only means that the Hard Disk of the computer is not being detected

Try doing the ff:

  • reseat the IDE or SATA cable of the Hard Disk
  • Clean the port where the cable is connected (make sure that the computer is unplug)
  • reboot the computer
  • if problem persist contact computer manufacturer
Hope this will help

On dell dimension 2400 desktop Primary Drive 0 not found. When I hit F12 it does nothing. I can't get to the Diagnostics page.

More than likely your hard drive has crashed. You'll need to replace it and reinstall the operating system.

If you'd like to try and mount the drive to recover files, I'd recommend downloading and burning ubuntu onto a cdr and launching the live version (advice for advance user)

If you'd like a Pro opinion I'd recommend finding a local repair shop that does FREE diagnostics.

Hope this info helps!

My primary drive 1 an 2 not found how do i fix this

well primary drive is the hard drive from which the OS boots so if it is not detected PC cannot boot so check exactly which drive is not found and you can also check the power cable to the drive which is not found and make sure it gets the power .

good luck.

Before I start my dell dimension 2400 computer up, I have to disconnect my usb mouse and usb keyboard because if I don't I will get these 2 errors, Primary drive 1 not found and Secondary drive 1 not...

The resolution for this is to go into the BIOS with the help of F2. Then look for the option USB Legacy devices. If it is enabled disable it or vice-a-versa. Also look for Boot from USB devices. Please disable that option. And select the first boot device to be the HDD (Internal hard drive)

Dell dimension 2400 diskette drive 0 seek failure

Check your BIOS setting to see if it detects the hard drive (Primary disk 0). If it can't detect the hard drive then the hard drive maybe faulty. Open the case unpluge the IDE cable from the hard drive and reconnect it again, also unplug the IDE cable at the motherboard and reconnect it again including the power connector on the hard drive.
There maybe an option to test the hard drive in the BIOS, if so use it to test the hard drive.
If the hard drive is faulty, you need to replace it and install Windows, the various device drivers and your programs to get a functioning computer again.
You might consider buying a new computer (it will be faster & better than the old Dell) and you have your new monitor to go with it.

Dell2 2400 BIOS F2 reads backwords.

It sounds like you may have the IDE cables hooked up backwards on your motherboard.. The IDE cable slot on the motherboard labled IDE1 should be where your Hard drives are if you want them to read as primary. The Optical drives are usually on IDE2, designating them as secondary.
Let me know if you need more help.
