Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

Hi I have a dell laser printer 3115cn, I changed the cyan cartridge and now I have small blue dots on one side of my copy. What should I do? Thanks Dora

Its probably a faulty, or badly remanufactured cartridge. If you still have the old cartridge, provided it wasn't fully used (according to the cartridge 'chip'), put it back in and if printing is OK, it IS the 'new' cartridge.

Error code 093-921


If you are seeing any or all of these error codes on the Dell 3130cn Laser Pinter that there is a Firmware Update to address this issue. However, the firmware cannot be applied when there is an error present, so first try reseating all toners. You may need to repeat this several times before errors are cleared. Once error-free, download the Firmware from the Dell Support website and apply.

Reset the Cyan toner properly.

  1. Verify all packaging has been removed from the printer cartridge. This includes any tape or red handles. Also verify the toner cartridge is properly installed.
  2. Remove the toner cartridge and clean the toner housing of any excess toner with a clean dry cloth. Reseat the toner cartridge when finished cleaning.
  3. Check that all toners are Dell branded and not refills. Take note of all PPIDs (Serial Numbers). Check that all toners are for the correct model
    • If any toners are non Dell, swap with another toner
  4. Run diagnostics on the toner cartridge sensor.
    1. Power off the printer.
    2. Hold down the and buttons on the printer and power the printer on.
    3. Release your fingers from the keys when the message Diagnosing... appears.
      Customer Mode and ESS Diag display.
    4. Press the button until IOT Diag appears and press the button.
      On the LCD, Digital Input appears.
    5. Press the button until Digital Input appears and press the button.
    6. Press the or button until DI-8 for (yellow) DI-9 for (Magenta) DI-b for (Cyan) and DI-a for (Black) appears and press the button twice. It is only necessary to run the diagnostic on the toner cartridge to which the error applies
    7. Open the front cover. (Figure 1)

    8. Remove and replace the toner cartridge. Every time the toner cartridge is reseated, the counter on the Operator Panel will increase by 1.
      • If the diagnostic does not increase by 1 then replace the toner cartridge.
      • If the diagnostic does increase by 1 and the error persists, Please contact Dell Technical Support for further advice.

The Cyan Toner Cartridge is either not seated correctly or the cartridge is bad. Open the front of the printer, pull out the Cyan Toner Cartridge, reseat making sure it fits all the way to the back.

If the problem is not resolved replace the Cyan Toner Cartridge.

Have Dell 3115cn printer, installed an Innovera cyan cartridge, and the dell keeps saying restart, will not read the cartridge


Probably a chip problem.

Its worth taking the cartridge out (with the printer switched on), close front door, wait for 'Insert C cartridge' message, switch off printer, put new cartridge in, close door, switch on - may clear the problem.

I've seen this before with these cartridges, there was a bad batch of chips around.

If still have your old cartridge, swap the chips over, and try your new toner with the old chip (and for completeess, your old toner with the new chip. If the message changes, the chip that was on the new cartridge is faulty. If it doesn't there's something wrong with the cartridge.

Either way, if there's a cartridge problem, it needs a word with the supplier.

Tiny dots about 1 inch apart down the side of page


Again, this was actually HP Laserjet 3800. Problem solved by chatting with HP, and them having me go into a diagnosis mode that disabled cartridge check. Then, I removed the cyan cartridge, the dots went away. They then had me put the black into the cyan slot, and not dots appeared. I had backup toner on hand, swapped in a new cyan and magenta, and all was good. HP agreed to replace the cartridges.

I'm assuming that the cartridge is a remanufactured item (or a home refilled item.

The chip on the cartridge probably hasn't been changed.

You probably used a "GENERIC" toner cartridge on one of your toners.

This caused the developers to get contaminated, now they need to be replaced (probably Black & Blue)

Dots on every paper


This is probably a registration / alignment issue. I've had a similar problem before and had to call HP and get a technician sent out to fix it. They actually ended up replacing the whole machine for me.
