DVD is not reading any disc, Can't upload software to fix because its continues to try to read a disc that is not there.

This can be either two things:
1. The glass eye laser lens inside player is dirty and needs to be cleaned with cotton swab and a little rubbing alcohol.
2. The motor for the laser eye is shot and is not reading and will have to be repaired or replaced.

So, my 3 year old got a hold of my portable TruTech DVD player and now it doesn't work. There is a black ribbon thing when you open the DVD player, one end of it is hooked to something, but the other end...

The black ribbon thing is the wire harness to the optical laser of your DVD player. It normally has a connector that is plugged into a printed circuit board inside the player. It is best to have a technician plug it back in to test the unit. The laser of these units can be harmful to eyesight when operating a powered unit opened. The laser may also need to be "calibrated" or aligned. Hope this has been helpful.

Toshiba DVD player says every DVD is a bad disk

HI,

see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.
Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.see if the player tries to read the disc. Load a disc and listen.

It cant read a dvd "no disc"

Check and make sure the laser eye is clean and clear of dust and smudges. With player OFF, blow across laser eye. Try cleaning with soft dry Qtip. Otherwise you probably have a bad laser drive or bad drive ribbon cable.

Durabrand DUR-7 portable DVD player

Hi,

Most DVD players that would display such a message even with a known good disc inside signifies that the that the laser eye/lens is not reading the disc. This could probably be attributed to:
1. dirty, damaged, inverted, blank, un-finalized burned CDs or DVDs;
2. defective, weak burned-out laser eye/lens;
3. defective slider shafting (where the laser eye's carriage moves.

A few things you can try:
1. Use a CD cleaner (readily available from most computer shops);
2. use a can of compressed air and blow through the inside of the loaded disc area;
3. gently tap on the top cover where you estimate the reading/laser eye/lens would be;
4. gently press on the tray door once the disc is loaded.

Should this not be corrective, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional such as those in a Service Center. Alternately, your friendly neighborhood electronic shop should do just fine.

Hope this be of some help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kindest regards.

you have dirty lens, try to cleaning with 100% cotton buds. or you have damage laser eye, or broken flex ribbon wire, but first you have to do is to cleaning the lens with cotton buds.. if not reading after you clean the lens! change the laser eye and flex ribbon wire.
