Question about Toshiba 57H82 57" Rear Projection Television

Wavy picture on all sources

My TV picture is very wavy and has vertical lines that flicker quite a bit. It's far to bad to actually watch something like this. I've tested out all of the inputs and they all give the same result. The audio works just fine. The on screen display also works just fine. It also turns on and off and seems to perform all other functions just fine. If somebody could point me in the right direction, I'd like to get this TV working again. Thanks

Dougers, I am next door, in Alberta. I have fixed my hyperboard by replacing the surface mount caps myself in my workshop for a fraction of the cost of a replacement board.

Premtech, I too have the same provle with my 57H82 Toshiba rear projection tv. Can you too send me the service manual (frindos@aol.com), and advise me how I can send you the hyperboard??? to fix, or intrructions on how to fix the 'caps' myself.

    The lines/wavyness is getting worse.

    Help

    Thanks in advance,

I recently purchased a used 50H82 with the same exact problem for $50 with the intent of fixing it and placing it in a rec room for the kids to watch movies, play video games, etc.

I was able to find the 50H81 sevice manual online (not a commercial site) and wonder if it would be at all applicable. If not, I might need to access a newer one and wonder if the 57" and 50" models use the same service manual.

Also, perhaps a little more info regarding how to go about betting parts and the actual steps taken for an intermediate do-it-yourselfer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. savannah518@gmail.com

The hyperboard solution by premtech worked perfectly. FYI, the board can be refurbished on your own, provided you are able to handle soldering small surface mount components.

Premtech - I have the same problem with my 57H82 and would like your help on two things:
1) please mail me the link to the service manual. My email address is riff_meister@yahoo.com. Thanks!

2) for the surface mount cap replacements, can you reply with confirmation that it is just the 16v/10uf that need replacement, the quantity of them, and where you recommend ordering them from online (part # from that recommended vendor would be welcome as well).

Thanks!

We have a Toshiba 57H82 with Chasis # TAC0265. It is about 4 1/2 years old. When turning it on the whole screen is a mess (wiggly etc...) and after a few minutes it gets a little better. The top 12 inches wiggles and a white vertical line on the right side appears. I have been reading the comments and have opened up the front of the television and see the metal box which houses the "HYPERBOARD"....My question is what would be the approxx cost to get a new board and is it easy to instal (pops in once the metal box comes off)?

Live up in good ol B.C., Canada so even with the dollar at par I imagine it is going to cost a lot more up here!! LOL

Thanks, Doug.

This is a somewhat common problem having to do with the hyper module, Toshiba p/n#23148024 There are a gouping of 16v/10uf caps in the hyper board that fail causing the distoritions you're describing here. At first, as the module begins to go bad the distoritions are present and usuallly go away or fade significantly as the set warms up - - this gets worse until the distoritions don't go away at all... From what you're saying you're at stage three already. :) You have a few of options: (1) local repair shop pull the board and replace the caps or module; (2) Pull the module yourself and repair or send it in for board level repair; or (3) pull the hyper baord, order a new one and put it in yourself. For 2 or 3 you'll be better off having the service manual and if you need it just email me privately and I'll send it. Make sure in your request to tell me the model number and reference something of this repair so I have a clue of what you need. BTW the hyper board is on the left side of the unit mounted vertical on the signal board inside a metal can. Good Luck Bill

Wavy lines on my Haier 32

Move other devices as far as you can from the TV. A motor on the same circuit can cause wavy lines too. Try a different set in the same location to see what happens. If different results, probably a bad filter or capacitor in the TV.

Toshiba/ 42H81 / hyper board

You can either yrplace your Hyper board, or replace all the serfice mount capacitors in it. The cap replacement fixes this 90% of the time.

Mitsubishi rearTV has intermittent wavy lines running throughout

Do you have anything to test it in 1080i? Does it do it on all connections or just one? I had a similar problem with my TV that turned out to be a bad input board. Mine would only display 1080i through the Component connections. All others would show pink and green wavy lines. It cost me around 500 to fix it. Unplug the TV. Remove the back cover for the TV. Using a NON-metal object, or gloves, wiggle the input board (that has all the video connections on it) slowly back and forth and see if the problem comes and goes. You will have to have someone watching for you. If something is loose on that board, the problem should show itself. Narrowing down the problem will probably save you money on repair bills.

hi
You are experiencing a lack of vertical deflection or vertical collapse. Since it will come back the first thing I would suspect is “ring cracks” in the solder joint in the vertical circuit, mainly the vertical IC. These suspect solder joint can be re-soldered and the television set repaired.
I would suggest that you contact a local servicer. If you are repairing the set yourself, be careful, there is always a risk of shock when dealing with electronics.
OR
Check your equipment connections. Disconnect your equipment (VCR, DVD or set-top box) from the TV and reconnect, making sure each connection is in tight.

Pictures goes to distorded wavy lines.

This could be attributed to tuning reception of your tv. If your using antenna only, it is most probable. If cable, check your line.

If this is a crt type, moving that tv with that size could somehow bend its circuit board. Loose connection is a probability. Could be some minor component is detached from solder. This can be attributed to tuner and vertical IC.

Just for an input.

Picture is wavy and has black vertical and horizontal band

The following are supposed to be checked on the horizontal and vertical,
the supply of the sawtooth oscillator
eletrolitic capacitors near a line transformer
zener diodes
and driver transistor a round that area.

Wavy lines

Are the wavy lines horizontal or vertical? If they are horizontal and up near the top of the screen it could be 60HZ interference from a power cord running over the cable from the DVD player to the TV. There could also an internal breakdown of the shielding by the power supply of the DVD player. If the lines are vertical it is likely the cable or maybe the input jack on the TV. Could be a number of things.

Toshiba - 50H82 service manual

Don't buy a hyper module simply replace the smt lytics with some mini cam radials cut to fit. You will be looking to replace Cx261, Cx230, Cx270, Cz52, Cx178, Cx221, C514, Cx250, Cx670, Cx241 and Cx541 all of them 16v/10uf... The Hyper is easy to locate it's the large metal cased vertical board just behind the jack panel. Two screws and some patience getting it out and you should have it repaired in less than an hour.
I do have the service manual and would be glad to send it, email me privately for a link.
