The screw holding the top of the handle to the middle of the vacuum is loose. If there is a non flush seam right below the brush attachment storage on the front, push from behind to make it flush again and tighten the screw holding the upper piece to the middle.

Same problem with a 6-month old vacuum. Could only use it if I continuously held the red power switch on. So I took Geoffrey's advice. I removed the screw on the back side that holds the upper portion of the handle, removed that portion of the handle, and reinstalled, making sure the screw was tight. Everything is working like normal now! Thank you!

We all of the sudden have to hold the power button down to turn it on. As soon as we let go of the power button, the vacuum shuts off.

It sounds like the actual switch in the unit has failed. The switch has a spring in it that keeps it in the on position then pushes it to the off position when it is hit again. If you can get to it, you'll be able to check it out yourself and Bissell will probably send you one to replace it.

Bissell 5770 vacuum power won't stay on. The power will only stay on if you hold down the button the whole time.

I just had this happen to me. I took the top part of the vacuum off, unscrewed all of the screws from the top piece and opened it just enough to pop off the plastic red power button. Then I pressed the switch mechanism up and down a few times to reset it and put it back together. Turns out it didn't actually go bad.

Bissell healthy home won't stay on unless i hold the start button

We had the same problem. Open the handle by undoing the screws and then pull one side off. Depress the button a few times and see if it catches. It worked for us and now it is just like it should be again. Good luck!
