Remove the top and spin the drum to see if the belt has split. There should only be 2 or 3 screw on the back of the top.

Here is a link to a tip I wrote nate. It sounds like your timing belt slipped a tooth or ten. Or it may be broken. Does the starter motor seem like its turning the motor much faster than it normally does? You say that you can see the external drive belts turning, if this is true then your starter is engaging correctly. If your timing is off, or belt is broken, the engine will not make compression. Put your hand over the intake while someone cranks it to see if you feel that intake stroke pull on your hand. Read my tip in the link above for lots more info.

Battery light turned on. Lost power steering and AC.

You broke your serpatine belt. Needs replacing. It's a $50ish part and easy to do if you have a diagram under the hood of how the belt fits. But if it was "rattling" for a couple of weeks take it in for crying out loud. Let the mechanic look it over to make sure your lack of vechile care didn't destroy anything under the hood.....

Sounds likethewater pump pulley makes noise when

It sounds like you have a loose or worn alternator belt
(same belt drives water pump) That would explain the
screeching noise and the battery light on when wet.
Check the belts for tension and wear on the inside of
the belts(cracks or pieces missing) if you're going to
change the belt or belts yourself, thats the best time
to check the pullys and make sure they are tight and
spin true. Hope this helps.

Noisy

1. Your tires maybe low on air
2. The tires need balancing
3. Since your care is FWD, make sure you check to see that you don't have any broken boots on your axles. The lack of grease on those joints will cause a lot of noise. Almost like a moaning, it gets pretty annoying

Hope that helps!!

Drum doesnt turn... motor fine.

From your description I would suspect a broken belt although I am unfamiliar with your model. Once the belt [which transfers drive from the motor to the drum] breaks, it would'nt matter how well the motor runs, it can't turn the drum.
Hope this helps!
