All you need to know is if it is a sata or ide connection and decide how big you want the drive to be and then shop around.

SOURCE: always need disk cleanup

Open up the Computer icon and right-click on your c: drive. Then click on Properties, then on Disk Cleanup. Once this has completed, you might want to run Defrag as well, in Tools, then Defrag, then Defrag Now. You might also think about Drive Compression too, to make more effective drive room.

SOURCE: i broke my asus eee

hi,
most of the times if laptop or Desktop cpu falls then HDD is the very first part to be damaged.
You can try any third party software as partition magic or DM for formating the drive.

I have replaced the hard drive in an asus x5dij laptop and it still doesn't work

If this is a brand new hard drive then you need to install Windows on this hard disk with the ASUS drivers for your model laptop plus your programs to get a working laptop.

Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key? please help me proceed from this screen when starting pc.

Try putting in your windows disk and using the repair option, your hard drive could be bad or data corrupted, you may have to reinstall windows if you are unable to recover it using the repair console. run CHKDSK /p from the C:\ prompt in the repair console. If you still are unable to access the disk, try reseating the cables on the drive, or using a different power cable. If none of that works, replace the hard drive.

One off my drivers is missing would asus be able to send me the recovery disk for an asus x5dij laptop if so this will be handy or tell me how to from peter

What driver is missing? When you bootup, try hitting the F9 key repeatedly, it should boot into recovery console. Also, try F4 if that does not work. For windows XP, you will need the restore CD. For Vista and 7, you can do a repair of the OS through the recovery console. Will the computer boot? Are you sure that it is a Windows OS driver that is missing?

Is scratching of hard disk normal? my ASUS laptop does not start ( no display ) and the indicator of hard disk reading is off

The scratching noise is not normal. This hard disk appears to be faulty especially if the hard disk LED does not light up.

Im getting a disk read error and eee pc 900 notebook wont even boot up. i mean not show windows at all. i have windows xp. need help

It's a hardware failure - the hard disk has died. You will have to replace it then reinstall using an external cd unit and an XP install disk - ideally the recovery disk should be used.

I have the identical problem as chrisdangelo

hello

I have read your problem and the solution to your problem may be following.
  • The BIOS setting may have changed. You can reset the BIOS settings.
  • The hard disk type may have changed..look for SATA and ATA.
  • Or your window got corrupt.Reset the BIOS setting and reinstall the windows using boot able CD.
  • if nothing work out then may be your hard disk connector is loose or your hard disk is gone.
thank you
