You probably bought a battery that's not original and is not decoded. Nikon uses coded reading of batteries, so you can't put any battery in it. Try recharging it and test if it works.
If it's an original battery with a certificate on it, you should contact your nearest Nikon store or the store you bought it in.

Most of the time it is the battery, or the battery contacts. Make sure, when you place the battery on the charger, the charger acts like the manual says. If the charger does not starts with a slow blinking light, something is wrong. If it does not give any light, check the power (cord and outlet) on the end of the charge, the light should burn continues.
When you are not sure the battery is good, try mother battery.
It also can be the contacts are not free or oxidised. Check the contacts on the battery and in the camera, if they are clean and shiny. Just a spec of dust, or a very small pice of paper on one of the contacts cab spoil all the fun. You could clean the contacts with a dry cloth, or a cotton swab. Never use anything sharp in or close to a camera.
After you replaced the battery, try again. If nothing (not even a new battery) works, contact a Nikon certified service centre. Or visit the dealer.

I dropped my camera just now and i turn it off and on to display the pictures i took and it is not working.....please help me i dont know what to do and i cant afford to buy a new one

More than likely the circuit board or the battery connections is cracked or severed. Check the battery compartment and make sure the terminals are still intact. If you can't find anything, the circuit board is cracked somewhere - it needs to be disassembled and repaired.

How to remove the battery from nikon d3000

the little trap door on the bottom houses both the memory card and the battery. you have to push the battery slightly to release it. i fond the easiest way at that point is to tip the camera and the battery usually slides right out.

Afraid bad news is correct, it sounds like main control board.... You will need to get a quote from your local Nikon Service Agent..... Good Luck
