Not sure if that's exactly the right model but it sounds close. This is a recording of the noise it's making, though it's from the room next to the laundry room. It's still loud and scary/annoying. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1TIa87W4AWW It started out silent when we got it new a while back, but it gradually got worse. Now it's like this and I don't know what to do.

You will need to remove the back cover plate of the machine and locate the large pulley at the end of the drum. Remove the belt, then the pulley and you should see a bearing housing. Some models require a bearing and housing replacement, while others can simply be repaired with a bearing replacement alone.
Go here, and find the nearest Dealer for your part.

Or you can try ordering direct from LG. If you are as handy with tools as you say, this should be a fairly easy job.

If the 'loud noise' water sloshing you should first check that the pump filter isn't blocked. This sometimes stops the pump altogether. Coins, etc..If the noise is metallic it could mean bearings...Check the pump via the small door at floor level...Mind the water inside the machine. You may be able to drain first with a small hose which is inside the pump access door.....Nomess

It sounds like a bearing problem. Open the door and see if you can wiggle the inner drum up and down. If you can, it's a very expensive repair job because the bearing has failed and needs to be replaced along with the inner drum. If the drum does not wiggle up and down easily, then there is another problem that will need a technician to check on.
Good luck.

Hi.
If it is an high pitched noise or a rumble that gets muc louder when the machine spins at speed, then it is usually the drum bearing. the drum bearing is located at the back of the drum. Replacement requires disassembling of parts of the machine. You remove back panel and you will probably need the top out. You undo the belt taking note of the routing and replace the bearing. The repair must be done by someone with experience.
If instead the noise is a rattling coin-like noise, then you have objects trapped in the drain filter. The drain filter can be accessed using the service door in front, at the base of the washer on one side. Open the access, rotate anticlockwise the cap and collect water from drain filter. After that remove blockage and foreign objects.
Regards.
