SOURCE: Washing machine fills in the water but does not start the wash cycle

The fact that it does not fill completely can be related to a problem with the water-level switch, that regulates the water level.

See from Repairclinic:
"This switch is usually a diaphragm device with a small, clear tube attached between the switch and the bottom of the washer's outer tub. As the water level in the tub increases, the pressure on the air in the tube increases. When the pressure reaches a certain level, it activates the switch, shuts off the water, and signals the timer to begin the agitate cycle. If the switch is defective, it may prematurely signal the water to shut off. If so, you probably need to replace the water-level switch."

However, when it is only the switch the mashine usually completes the cycle, but with less water than normal.

A possibilty is that either the timer is faulty or there is a problem with the water supply.

Check that water is coming from water supply with regular pressure, and that hoses back there are not obstructed.

More likely you will have to replace the timer.

See again from Repairclinic:
"When the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water."

  • You can find parts at the following websites, you need to input your model number. If the part is not listed contact them.

    SOURCE: Doesnot stop filling water

To javed_iqb904, does the drum actually fill or does it seem like that water is draining out as it's filling?

To neonllama19, if it fills with the tap on and the machine off, it sounds like a defective water valve. If it never stopped filling it sounds like a defective pressure switch or hose to the pressure switch is loose or diconnected.

SOURCE: Washing machine wont hold water on any setting

raise the main drain hose to the top of the back control head. there may be a problem with the main hose being to low and the water is gravity siphoning out of the washer.make sure the washer is off when you lift the hose up but do not remove it from the wall, you should here water drain out once it has stopped draining restart you machine and it should fill to the proper level and quit then go into your wash cycle

My hoover 500mb 5.0kg washing machine fills up fine at start of cycle then just washes for a bit then just stats to fill up and wont stop till I stop it

I had a similar problem and not sure whether my solution would help you.It was to do with the position of the waste pipe.It should raised about 2ft. ,looped before discharged into the washing machine tee.when the discharge hose is lying on the floor there's a possibility that the water is filling up and going straight out.By raising it you are letting it fill up and presumably triggering the water level sensor.Hope this helps.

We have a Westinghouse Laundromat 800 (7Kg)that overflows. It appears that the when it fills itself with water (hot or cold) it does not automatically close the valves(?). Can you please help. Thanks.

Hi just read your posting. Now try this.Select only cold water fill and start cycle, then when you hear water entering your machine turn the power off at the wall. The water should stop filling straight away.If it does try the same test on your hot water. If either of the valves are faulty it should continue to fill after you have turned the power off to the machine. Please reply and tell me if the hot or cold water did not stop or if they both stopped. Please try the test on hot and cold a couple of times to be sure.Looking forward to your reply.

Water won't cut off when filling... Hoover Galaxy A6834

Hi Steveb6723 ,Just read your posting. Now here is a little test I need you to preform so I can tell if the problem is your water valves or your pressure switch system. Now 1st turn it to a normal cycle and only select the cold fill.Pull the knob out so it starts to fill. Now turn the machine off at the power point,Does the water stop filling straight away?If it does select hot fill and pull the knob. When it starts filling on hot water turn the power off again and see if the water
stops straight away. Please reply and tell me if the hot or cold water continued to flow when the power was off.Looking forward to your reply.

F&P washing machine:GW709 doesn't cut out when filling

could b pressure switch tube is blocked or your control board with the pressure switch attached is faulty. empty water from machine, remove pressure switch hose from control board, blow thru tube to remove any blockages, refit tube. turn on cycle, select low water level, push start, after about 30sec"s push start again, that should stop it filling straight away. if the water stops push start again to continue filling. if it doesnt stop filling after restarting the cycle then it is your control module.if the water doesnt stop filling after the 30 sec stop it is the water valves. by the way what country do u live in because $120 seems to b alittle too expensive. please reply 4 more help.

Sounds like you have an intermittent problem with the board or one of the on board switches.
