Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll down cd-dvd rom drives you might see a yellow question /exclamation mark ? ! or a red X right click to update driver You might have to physically unplug the leads for this cd/dvd restart your computer then plug them back this should activate the found new hardware wizard If this does not fix the problem it might be a registry problem "you only need to do the following" if you cant see your disk drive in windows explorer Close all open programs Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlSet Control Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column. Upper Filters Lower Filters Upper Filters.bak Lower Filters.bak If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete

After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: CD/DVD ENCLOSURE in Sony Vaio PCV RX860

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/tutorial-display.pl?tut_id=269&mdl=PCVRX860
this link is a tutorial of how to get the side panel off,
to get the cd drive out, you need to do a couple more steps.

first, you will need to take off the top and other side panels. this can be done by looking at the top back of the case. there are two clips that hold the top panel on. push up on the two clips and the top part will slide back and you can pull up on the panel and it should come off.

Next, you should be able to push some more clips on the top to get the side panel off. it should fold down just like the first side.

then, you need to take off the front two panels. the bottom part should be just a couple clips on the inside front of the case, and the top clips will be revealed when you take off the bottom part.

after that is done, you should be able to unscrew the cd/dvd drive from the case and unplug the cables connected to it from the top where you removed the top panel.

then you should be done

Removing memory modules (if needed). Carefully spread latches on both sides of the memory slot. The memory module will pop up at 30 degree angle. Pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.
Removing modem card (if needed). Remove two screws securing the modem card. Lift up the modem card to disconnect it from the motherboard and unplug cable from the side.

Hope this Helps
