Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Windows not loading

I changed the display settings, then the computer immediately started freezing. So I restarted the computer. Windows never started, nor does the the Dell logo ever come up. All I see is a blue screen without any text. Anybody know where I can download a restore disk or know how to fix this problem? Any info is much appreciated.

I believe the boot key sequence is - CONTROL F11, should bring up a "boot from..." screen. from there you should be able to start a system restore. Personally it sounds as though your boot table got messed up.

Dell does have system restore disks available. Need model number, tag number, etc ... http://support.dell.com should be the right link to get that started. might take a couple weeks, each setup series of disks are specific to the make/model of the machine (so, generally non transferrable unless you know exactly what you are doing)

If you need more help, contact me through this site.

My desktop pc turns on but will not come up on my monitor my monitor is not faulty as its the same on other monitors ive tried the monitor comes on as if to load but then a little box comes up safe mode...

When the computer starts, you should have white letters on the screen showing the BIOS. If you do have this, restart it and immediately start tapping F8 if you have windows on that computer. This should bring up a menu and on that menu you should see safemode. Select that using the arrow keys on the keyboard. The computer should come up with a screen that is bigger than you are used to. From that screen you can logon if you have to and then you can change the display settings. From what you are describing it seems that the monitor cannot deal with the signal sent from the computer.

Computer is not loading..black screen keeps coming with the message input not supported..how can i turn my computer on normally.it loads on safe mode.

Input not supported could be the screen having problems. It loads in safe mode so the display driver is corrupt or set to a too higher resolution for your screen.
Adjust it as required.

Computer wont bootup windows xp error loading operating system drive 1 not found please help me

1.Restart your computer. Immediately after the screen goes blank for the first time, press the F8 key repeatedly. The Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If the menu does not appear, restart your computer and try again. Use the cursor keys on your keyboard (your mouse will not work) to select Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start.

.
If you recently installed new hardware, shut down your computer and disconnect the hardware. Then, restart Windows XP and troubleshoot your hardware to get it working properly.
3.
Restart your computer and press F8 again. This time, choose Safe Mode and press ENTER. Windows XP attempts to start in Safe Mode, which does not automatically start programs and hardware, and displays very primitive graphics. If Windows XP starts successfully in Safe Mode, you can remove any programs or updates you have recently installed. Then, restart your computer normally.

Performing a repair installation of Windows XP can fix many serious startup problems. While you should not lose any of your important documents, you might lose settings, and you will need to reinstall many updates.
Before performing a repair installation of Windows XP, you should have both your Windows XP CD and your product key available.
To perform a repair installation of Windows XP
1.
Insert your Windows XP CD into your computer.
2.
Restart your computer. If prompted, press a key to start from the CD-ROM.
When the Welcome to Setup page appears, press ENTER on your keyboard.
On the Windows XP Licensing Agreement page, read the licensing agreement. Press the PAGE DOWN key to scroll to the bottom of the agreement. Then, press F8.
When prompted, press R to have Windows XP attempt to repair Windows by reinstalling important Windows components.
The repair and reinstallation process might take more than an hour. Eventually, Setup prompts you to answer questions just as if you were installing Windows XP for the first time. For detailed instructions, read Install Windows XP.

Computer loads windows xp then goes black and does nothing else

This problem occurs because of display driver or resolution issue.
For that when you power up the computer press F8 key before you see windows logo .
then you can see safe and other menu enter in enable vga mode then go to start ->control panel ->display ->settings.
Change screen resolution to 1024*768 then apply and ok.
If sill not able top see display in normal mode then enter in safe mode and uninstall graphic driver then restart computer then install graphic driver again.
Also Reattach all connection to harddrive because some times harddrive is not recognized properly in bios .
Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks for using FixYa.

My pc freezes after "loading personal settings" appear

your computer may have a virus or some installation files are corrupt. Solution 1:
If you have the windows installation cd insert it it and restart the machine. the computer should boot from the cd, if it does not change the setting in dos. when it boots from the cd, it will start the installation process then it wil bring a set of options, choose repair windows installation. if this does not work go to solution 2
Solution 2:
download hirens cd from http://www.hirensbootcd.net/. after downloading this file burn it to a cd. then insert this cd into your cd drive and restart your machine. if you followed the steps in solution on it should automatically boot from the cd. then choos one of the antivirus, to scan your pc. it is safe to use all one by one, then restart your machine again after removing your cd, then you should be able to use your machine again.
Solution 3
if all of the above solutions dont work, u will need to re install your operating system. if you cannot do this then, contact a certified computer technician.

The problem has been a series of smaller problems which progressively resulted in a lock or freeze. The few times it does not freeze, a screen flashes on selling a Spyware protection. I think my husband...

Try starting your computer in safe mode and do a virus scan once in safe mode. While in safe mode Windows only loads the basic devices to run your computer and usually viruses are not loaded untill windows starts in regular mode. Don't panic once you are in safe mode and your screen looks all grainy, this is normal.
  1. Restart your computer and press F8 as soon as you turn it on.
  2. Click the "safe mode with networking" option
  3. Update your antivirus
  4. Do a full system scan
  5. Restart your computer and hope for the best.
If that doesn't work, than reinstall windows.
If you need further assistance, let me know.
Avast is the best free antivirus there is. google it, install it, and enjoy your computer again.Another option is to reinstall windows. If you have the cd that came with the computer than put it in the cd rom and restart your computer and follow onscreen instructions.

Try rebooting it with the cd you ejected back in, to see if the installation finishes. If this does not work, take the disk back out and try booting with the option Last Good Configuration.

Monitor won't stay on. Error message comes up that says "no input signal", then monitor goes out.

Problem with the monitor, monitor cable, or video output. For monitor, if you have more than one input, make sure it's set to the correct one. Try a different cable. Try a different monitor. Check your video card settings--if you see the BIOS bootup screen while it's coming up then the Windows splash screen, then monitor blanks out, it's a Windows display setting. Boot into safe mode, then change settings--
  • Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
