Can't install Epson SX100

During install, when I plug the USB cable in, the 'Found new Hardware Wizard' starts then reports that it can not install this device - "The parameter is incorrect'. The wizard reports the device correctly as Epson Stylus SX100. I am using winXP. Epson Support have told me that this is a WINXP problem and that there is a fix for it - something to do with a hard drive conflict. I can't find any problem listed in the MS Knoledge base. Has anyone come across this problem and know the fix? I have installed the printer on a differnt computer OK.

    I have further info on this problem. It appears not to be the printer. I have tried another printer on the paralell port and I get the same error. All other USB devices work fine. I have tried the printer on another PC with the same motherboard and almost identicle build; it gives the same error. But another PC using a different motherboard works fine. The board in question is a Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2 so I am trying Gigabyte's support page.

    In one portable PC, running Windows XP Home, the procedure for installing the printer's drive doesn't stop for asking to connect the printer's USB cable, but it suddenly ends with a message like "Installation OK".

    Instead, the installation of the drive is NOT OK at all, and the printer doesn't work.

    Must be noted that the scanner mounted on the printer DOES work.

    In other PC the problem doesn't exist.

    When ths Epson SX100 drivers are installed one shall plug in the USB cable. When I do the printer is not recognized, the printer cannot be found. However, the printer IS plugged in, Windows finds it, the new hardware wizard starts. But you cannot install the printer via the Windows hardware wizard because the USB port is not created.

I found the right solution, at least to problem #2 on http://spazioiberico.spaces.live.com (in italian),
referring to http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/WinXP/microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware/2005-10/msg00987.html :
there was a missing Key in the Registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E979-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Copy that key from a working PC, that's all. By the way, if your problem regards a scanner o camera instaed,
the missing key may be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}

Hi re epson printer SX115 - red light flashing - error being reported - P/C does not recognize printer rgds chris

I suggest you uninstall the printer and restart your computer. Plug in the printer and if the computer recognises it allow the found hardware wizard to install it. If it doesn't recognise the printer when it is plugged in I suggest you assume the printer is faulty.

Install

Epson Stylus ->NOT plugged into electricity, ->NOT plugged into the computer with the USB cable, and Windows running on your computer.

1.Place the CD disk that came with your Epson Stylus in your CD or DVD drive. Install the contents to your computer. Restart your computer.
->NOW, plug the USB cable of your Epson into your computer. Plug your Epson into power.
If you hear the Epson setting up, wait until it has finished, before pressing the Power On button.
Press the Power On button of your Epson Stylus. You should get a "Found New Hardware" pop-up, out of your task bar tray at the bottom of your desktop screen.

IF, you have already connected the USB cable from the Epson to your computer, and turned the Epson on, BEFORE you installed the software from the CD, you have to start over.

You have to wipe off the Epson software First, before you do.

Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs.
After Add/Remove Programs has fully loaded,
(Please wait for the list to be populated), scroll down through the list, and -> Remove <- anything you see listed with the Epson name.
It will ask if you wish to restart your computer at this time. Yes! Restart your computer.

After Windows has loaded, follow what I have printed in number 1 above.

If I plug it into the laptop it makes the sound when a USB device is plugged in. It says found new hardware, then it wants to install the hardware with the Wizard all goes well until the wizard tells

It seems the Operating System does not have drivers for your new device or some portion of the drivers are corrupted. If you have the drivers cd for the USB stuff, install the drivers without attaching it to the pc ok. Attach the device when prompted or when completed. Make sure that any previous installations of the software and/or the device should be uninstalled. Good luck

Trying to install HP C4280, fatal error comes up during installation and will not complete

To install that printer, connect the data cable (Maybe USB?) to the PC and follow the instructions on the "New Hardware found" wizard, then supply the CD that came with the printer and make the wizard look for the drivers there. When the HP install program pops up (Gray sandglass), choose "Decline" or "Not agree" to the terms of the license and continue with the "New hardware wizard" installation.
The printer driver will get installed and none of the HP useless programs.
