SOURCE: ac unit breaker trips off

First thing to do turn off the breaker in the electrical panel, then open up the AC outdoor unit, including the disconnect box, that should be mounted on the wall near the outdoor unit. Go thru and tighten all of the screws and wire nuts, look for burnt wires, while you are at it.
Turn on the breaker and try again, if it still trips, then we look deeper;
pull the control panel off the outdoor unit and look for the contactor, this is where the power coming into the outdoor unit hooks up to. There will be a set of contacts in the control, check it out and see if the points are badly burnt,
If all off the wire checking still has not helped, it will more than likely be a bad condensor fan motor or a compressor, the compressor is the big black thing in the bottom of the outdoor unit, making sure that all power is turned off, pull the plastic cover off of the side of the compressor, there will be 3 wires, make sure none of them are burnt and touching the metal, if they are, repair the wire and test.
Try this and if you need to know how to troubleshoot to see if it is the fan motor or the compressor, just contact me back.
If this has been helpful, please rate me.
Contact me if I can help you any more.
Sincerely,
Paul

SOURCE: AC breaker trips after 10 minutes

Whats the amp breaker? Is this for the inside unit or the outside condenser? If the inside and gas heat you have a bad fan motor, If its an electric furnace , the same, but if its the outside unit, the fan could be going bad, locking up and the compressor still runs and pulls high ampsand tripps breaker or the compressor is just pulling too many amps due to plugged coils with dirt , grass or weeds blocking airflow.(koolbreezes74401@yahoo.com)

SOURCE: goodman heat pump trips sometimes no know cause.

20 AMP Circuit, huh? More on this below.

The tech probably didn't put a hard start kit on, but if he did, I hope he added the resistor to the start capacitor, or you could have a problem in the future. He probably put a soft start on it, a 2 wire device which looks like a capacitor. But only you will know for sure (or he.). As for warranty, manufacturers don't care about soft or hard start kits. In fact, they like 'em, because they extend the life of the compressor, which keeps them from having to pay for a new one.

I would be concerned with a 20 AMP circuit for anything higher than 2 tons. Take a look at the nameplate rating on the side of the condensor and tell me how many Running Load Amps (RLA) this unit is supposed to pull.
Also need to know your line voltage at the condensor, with the unit running.

SOURCE: The circuit breaker trips every time I turn the

You need to start with a basic inspection in the outside unit. For the breaker to trip immediately like that indicates a dead short. With the breaker OFF look at the internal wiring between the contactor relay and the compressor. You are looking for signs that the insulation may have been chewed by a rodent, or a wire is off of a terminal and in contact where it shouldn't be. If the wiring looks good, terminals pass tug test etc. you may have a shorted capacitor. Make sure to check the wiring for the fan too. You can disconnect the com lead for the compressor and fan one at a time to isolate the defective component if needed. Work safe! turn the breaker on for the test, and off again before you put your hand or tools back in.

SOURCE: AC Breaker trips and AC Fan turns slow.

Sounds like you have a bad capacitor for your squirrel cage fan , now as for the a/c unit sounds like you have a direct short in compressor to ground or leg to leg , check all wiring to make sure that it is not grounding out or melted together.

Tv when plugged in trips main fuse box

If there is a short circuit inside the TV, the fuse should normally blow first before tripping your breaker. The only exception is if you have a short in the ac cord or the line filter of the TV set. Have you tried the tv on another circuit to see if it trips that breaker? If not, it could be that your first circuit is close to an overload and the TV is simply pushing the circuit "over the edge".

My goodman furnance will not bow out air only the fan works . what should i do

Check all the easy things first. Check that all the settings on the thermostat are correct for AC. Does the AC unit run? If not check the electrical panel breakers to see if the AC unit breaker is tripped. If it is tripped, reset it. If it continues to trip, call are reputable service company. There are little or no items for "do-it-yourself" unless you have the training and equipment to service AC. Good luck.

Where is the fuse box?

Does the indoor unit run?

It sounds like you're looking in the right place. Check your power panel for a tripped circuit breaker (maybe more than one) or if the home is older, it may have fuses. It's possible that the outdoor disconnect also has fuses but that's not as likely. You can check around the outdoor unit and see if you smell anything burnt.

You can aso turn off the unit at the thermostat, wait a few minutes and see if the unit starts back up, but check the items listed above first.

The a/c unit outside doesnt come on but the fan inside of the house is blowing, the unit is not cooling the house. I have a goodman unit.

Hi, this is a split system Goodman. With the j36 in the model number, that tells me it is a 3 1/2 ton unit. If the outdoor condensing unit is off and doing nothing at all, no fan on top running, no compressor or anything, it sounds as though you have lost power to it. The high voltage to the outdoor unit is seperate from the indoor unit. When it is not running, you have only warm air from the indoor unit. Before I have you do anything, go out to the unit. Take a water hose being careful not to bend the fins on the coil, and wash just the coil very good. If its dirty, it can cause the pressures in the system to rise very high and blow a fuse or trip a breaker. When you are done washing it, you should have a electrical box mounted on the wall that feeds power to this unit. First, find your main breaker box to your home. It should be where the meter is. Find it and it will have several different breakers in it. They may or may not be marked. Look for a double - pole 30 to 40 amp breaker that should say a/c, if it was marked. If not, look and touch them, it will be 2 breakers together and feel if they are tripped. If so, turn it off with a hard motion. Then, back on the same way. Watch to see if it holds and does not trip on you. If its ok, go to the outdoor unit. Make sure the thermostat is on auto/cool and turned way down for it to come on. If it was a breaker and its running, more then likely the dirt from coil caused it to over amp and trip. Now, if there is power and breaker is on but still not on, open the box at the unit. It may have a pull out type plug, or breakers. If it has a breaker, turn it off and on like the other. If it doesn't, behind a plastic panel you will have 2- fuses. Turn off power at main box breaker, and remove both fuses. They are cheap, so go get 2 at a hardware store and replace them. You can have them ohmed out to see if one was bad. After installing the new ones and you turn it on, and all is good, that was your problem. May sure you have power to this outside unit. If it was a blown fuse or tripped breaker and this continues to happen, you may have a internal compressor or condenser fan motor problem. Try the things I have said first. This may be the only problem you have. I do this for a living, 33 years and a licensed contractor. Please keep me posted and I will continue to help you if you need me. Let me know after you check everything.
Sincerely,
Shastalaker7 :)

When turning on central air, our main electrical breaker is tripping. This is a brand new home barely over 1 year old. Should the AC have a warranty not covered by a builders contract??

Builders give a one year warranty but your air conditioner has five years on all parts. Anything outside the unit is not covered under the ac warranty. Breakers, stopped up drain and dirty coils.

I have outdoor Goodman compressing unit, model #cple24-1c. The breaker tripped and I was told to take out the connector located in the box by the unit and reset the breaker. The breaker did not trip again....

No, the electrical whip should be able to handle all weather, moisture, and even immersion. The only reason to replace a whip is if it has suffered some kind of physical damage. I recomend keeping an eye on it and if it trips again, have a pro come check out the system because something is not right inside the unit.
