Winterizing your Pressure Washer

Once again it's that time of year to get your pressure washer prepared for the cold months ahead. Proper winterization will protect your pump from the freezing of excess water in the pump over the winter. There are many ways to winterize your pump; we like to classify it as the good, better and best.

Good: (Gasoline powered) Leaving your machine in the off position with the high pressure hose disconnected pull the recoil rope 4 to 5 times or until you don't see any more water coming out of the high pressure end of the pump. (Electric powered) Disconnect your high pressure hose, turn the machine on for 5 to 10 seconds or until you don't see any more water coming from the high pressure end of the pump.
Better: If you have a air compressor around the house, hook the air line to the garden hose end of the pump and blow the water out until you don't see any more water coming out of the high pressure end of the pump.
Best: Purchase Karcher's Pump Guard, follow the simple directions that come with the product. This product is specially formulated to keep your pump from freezing, corrosion, premature wear, adds lubricant to the valves and seals to prevent sticking in the spring. You can usually get 2 or 3 uses from one bottle of Karcher's Pump Guard.

Visit this link to read more

Checking the vacuum lines on a 1984 chrysler new yorker

From you description of the fuel pump I take it that it is bolted to the block at the cam shaft probably with 2 bolts. If this is the case. then there will be 2 springs involved . One you can see by looking in past the lever and this spring keeps the lever in contact with the lobe on the shaft and so keeps the diaphragm working. The 2nd spring is inside the pump under the diaphragm and is what produces the pressure that keeps the fuel line to the carby full of fuel. If you have a sealed unit you will not see this spring as you have to split the carby body to get to it.. The big adaptor block is what you use to regulate the volume of fuel as it decides how close the pump is to the cam lobe and how much fuel is generated at each stroke . So if the block was there originally and you replaced with the same pump then leave the block there. These pumps are self regulating as to pressure and volume and the variables are the block thickness and the internal spring tension. Having said that--. if there is no spring on the lever then yes there will be a pumping problem
Distributors and coils are only involved it making high voltage and distributing the voltage to the correct plug in turn. cars I work on do not have fuel relays and cut off switches but draw fuel directly from the tank and push it to the carby. The coil will be most likely the best place to start looking for a starting problem because if there is no spark from the coil then it will not start. If you have points in the distributor then check the point gap. Remove the coil to the distributor cap and place it a small distance from the block . Turn on the ignition and using a small screw driver open the points (closed ) and you will get a spark from the coil lead. If you do not then there will be a problem at the points (Shorting out ) or condenser. If you have transistorised ignition then you will have to have the exciter block in the distributor check for operation. Coils can be checked with a multimeter and reading the internal resistance will indicate if it is good or burnt out.

Power Washer has no pressure, any ideas

1. If you have an inlet chemical injection valve make sure that the hose is intact and that the valve is closed.
2. Purge all air from the line by holding the nozzle actuation lever open until all air has been purged. When you connect the water supply hose turn it on before connecting the high pressure hose and let the unit self purge to the pump outlet high pressure hose fitting. Then connect the high pressure hose.
3. You could have a stuck spring and ball inside the high pressure head of the pump. You can tip the unit on its' side and add a substantial amount of WD-40 to the water supply hose fitting in an attempt to free the springs and balls.
4. Try BRIEFLY running the unit without the hose connected to see if there is high pressure water ejected from the high pressure fitting.
5. Inlet water screen at hose connection is clogged (hose screen and rubber) Check screen for debris.
6. The water strainer is clogged. (Almost looks like an LPG regulator just after but in line of the supply hose connection to the pump)

Order of troubleshooting

1, 2, 5, 6, 4, then 3.

Was there a recall on 2002 mercury sable front coil springs before,my tire went flat and i was gona change it then noticed that it wasnt a small puncture but that the coil spring broke off and punctured it...

No recall
Your front suspension is a McPherson struts assembly type.
Maybe I do not have the right english wording to satisfy the purists but roughly the complete strut assembly unit at the bottom is attached to the knuckle by two strong bolts and at the top to the vehicule frame by 3 nuts on studs. The coil spring you're talking about is mounted and compressed between the strut assembly base support bracket/seat and the top plate of the assembly. By the way, the built in shock absorber is the component you see going from the bottom to the top trough your coil spring. To remove the coil spring or replace the strut itself you have to compress the coil spring using a coil spring compressor tool. It a relatively dangerous process for beginners because the coil spring is under important tension.
If you plan to keep your vehicule several years have your coil springs replaced by new one. In this case I would suggest to change both for an even behaviour of your vehicule. The main reason they broke is their aging but mostly due to bad shock absorbers (struts) so by the same time have new struts installed. For coil springs, struts parts and labour it could cost you $1,000 and more to have it replaced (both sides) depending on where you have your mecanic done.

If you don't plan to keep your vehicule on a long term, I suggest to get a complete used struts assembly for this side (includes struts and coil spring) at a scrap yard for $125 and less and have it installed for approx. 1 hour and less of labour time. It could be a cheap solution.

Do not have new tire installed before you fix it otherwise you will scrap the internal structure of you tire.

Hope it will help

Left front coil spring broke, popped out of the brackets, extended down and ir wedged against tire. if i can cut the coil and get it out of there, will the car be drivable enough to get to repair shop? who...

If you have a broken coil spring then you shouldn't drive the car at all. Driving with the coil missing can cause lots of damage to the rest of your suspension system. The Ford Taurus is pretty bad about breaking these springs. They tend to rust up pretty bad and fail as the cars age. Have your car towed into the shop. This repair will probabaly cost you a few hundred dollars unless you know a mechanic who can do it for you. You need specialized equipment to get the new spring back on the strut. This is a highly dangerous job to the unexperienced mechanic.
