My HDD HXD 1TB light but don t work

I'm assuming you have a 1TB external hard drive ... that you can connect to your Mac or a PC, e.g via the USB (or Firewire) port.
If the disk drive is formatted for a Mac, the disk (files, format) may not be compatible on a Windows computer. The reverse is not usually a problem.
If you plug it into the Windows computer, and the disk content doesn't show up (quickly), then the disk/file system has been corrupted. It's not likely the disk that is the problem. It's the contents that's all "confused".
If you need to use the external disk drive on both the Mac and PC, try formatting it on Windows (first). Then add contents to it, and it should work for both the PC and the Mac

My glyph harddrive dont show up on my mac why?

If the hard drive was formatted on a PC computer in NTFS file format then the MAC will not recognise this hard drive.
If you want to transfer data between the PC and MAC then you need to format the hard drive with a PC in FAT32 file format. The MAC can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard drive

Lacie External Drive won't turn on (blue Light doesn't go on)

Inside the LaCie D2 250GB (300770) external harddrive's case, is a 250GB IDE (PATA) harddrive that is 3.5 inches across in width.

A desktop computer sized harddrive. (May be a Western Digital WD25000JB)

The harddrive plugs into a small circuit board, (Bridge board), and the circuit board has a USB port on it.

Using this Western Digital Passport for an example,

http://www.xbitlabs.com/misc/picture/?src=/images/storage/wd-passport-250gb/p3.jpg&1=1

Scroll down to the second photo, and left-click on it. The case of the external harddrive is shown open.
Inside is a 2.5 inch laptop sized harddrive.
An aluminum tape strip covers the small circuit board, attached at the back of the harddrive.

The second photo down on this page, shows you the small interface circuit board, that the harddrive plugs into, with the aluminum tape removed.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/storage/display/wd-passport-250gb_2.html

(Another design has wires coming from the small circuit board, to an interface the harddrive plugs into )

It is this small circuit board that goes bad in a LaCie. QUITE common.

Solution?

Simple.
1) Obtain a 3.5 inch IDE external enclosure
2) Remove the 3.5 IDE harddrive from the LaCie's case.
3) Install the harddrive out of the LaCie into the external 3.5 IDE enclosure.

An example of a 3.5 IDE (PATA) external enclosure,

Hey my Buffolo harddrive wont show my files, i can see that there are files, i have used 180 out of 200GB, but when i click on my harddrive icone on my computer it sayd folder is empty.. PLEASE HELP

There are generally 2 formats for Hard drives, the NTFS for windows and the FAT 32 for MAC. If you previously used windows then mac wont see it and vice versa. You can check this by right clicking and see the properties. If you want Mac to back up as well as using it on windows, you need to partition the Hard disk by going into the Mac Applications folder then select Utilities. If the Hard drive is connected you should see it and can select erase from the menu tab to format the disks according to your needs. This solved my problems and I hope this helps.

The drive is not recognized by Windows or Mac

You should give Test Disk a try. It's a little complicated at first but if you read the tutorial it's easy.

Maxtor Portable 320 GB External Hard drive doesn't show on my Mac

If you can get a 3rd party disk utility like DiskWarrior because if the disc information has corrupted the computer cannot see it, the utility will re write this and if the drive is OK it will re appear

Western Digital doesn't show up any more.

Try another cable.

Try using a powered hub to connect to your computer.

Remove the USB hardware from Device Manager and reboot Windows. When it reboots it will re-discover it.

Harddrive is not recognised by my Mac OSX (10.4.8)

When you reboot and hold down the option key, does the drive show up during that initial process? Is the weird noise more like clicking or more like a high-pitched whirring? If the drive has been damaged on a hardware level (causes too numerous to list... age, power fluctuations, being knocked over or dropped, corrosion, poor workmanship...) and won't show up at all, it is probably now a paperweight. There are a couple of utilities available to troubleshoot disc problems for Macs. The most popular are Disk Warrior and Tech Tool Pro. They can often "see" a disc that Disc Utilities misses, and assist you in copying the data from the drive. This process is important to be cautious with, however, since your drive is making noises it should no longer be considered reliable and the best hope is to retrieve your data and then get a new one or have yours replaced [if it is under warranty].
