Question about HP LaserJet P3005n Printer

Non HP cartridge used in a HP 3005 laser printer

I put an aftermarket cartridge in my HP 3005 laserjet. I still get the message that I have less than 100 copies left. How or can I override this message as the printer will not print unless I put in a new Hp cartridge?

I switched back to a brand new Hp cartridge and the message "less than 100 pages left" goes away. Both the aftermarket cartridge and the HP cartridge indicate that they are "genuine cartridges when installed".

  • bbarnes306 Jan 12, 2009

Reinstalled software. It still doesn't make the less than "100 pages left-order cartridge" message go away.

  • bbarnes306 Jan 12, 2009

I have comaptible cartidges with the correct chips. The printer recognizes that it is a genuine HP cartridge even though it is not. However, I still get the "less than 100 pages" message.

  • bbarnes306 Jan 12, 2009

Still doesn't work. Anyone out there have a fix that works?

Aftermarket and re-manufactured cartridges will not rest the low ink/toner waring, only the factory new ones will, this is the price u pay, it will not affect the printing in any way, I have always had HP printers and have dealt with this issue, there is nothing to be done, use the cheaper ones and live with the waring, it's much cheaper.

When inserting a new toner cartridge it is possible that the printer will not or does not recognize the new cartridge. First check to see if it is a compatible or OEM cartridge by looking at the box or packaging of the new toner. If it is compatible, then move to the next solution, which is cleaning of course. Take the access panel of your printer off then remove the toner cartridges to get to the print head assembly. The assembly can become dirty which includes the contact points for the toner cartridges. Remove the print head assembly and refer to your owner’s manual for a detailed description.
The print head contacts should be dusted free using a can of compressed air. It would be a good idea to clean the entire assembly if there is time as this could cause other printing problems. After using the compressed air, take a small lint free cloth with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol and wipe the contacts clean. It may also behoove you to clean the contacts on the toner cartridge as well. Carefully reassemble the print head, replace the cartridges and resume printing. Should the cleaning fail to solve the problem, it may be a smart chip toner system.
Smart toner systems keep track of varying data from the toner cartridge including the toner levels. This is a great feature except that the printer, by design, will only accept cartridges with a specific chip or programming. If the printer is slightly older then replacing the fuse could over-ride the problem and reset the printer into thinking it is accepting a smart toner chip from its manufacturer. If you do have a new manufacturer toner cartridge, i.e. HP cartridge for an HP printer, and the printer still won’t recognize the toner then more than likely the chip is faulty and should be replaced by HP.

Hi
Make sure the Startup type is set at Automatic and the service status is set at Started. Make changes if necessary.
If your printer still won't print successfully, it can help to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers. Uninstall the driver by following these steps:
1.
Turn the printer off and disconnect it from the computer.
2.
Click Start, click Control Panel, and click Add or Remove Programs, and then remove any printer software listed.
3.
In Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
4.
Right-click the printer, and then click Delete.
5.
While Printers and Faxes is still open, on the File menu, click Server Properties.
6.
On the Drivers tab, remove all the drivers listed, and restart the computer.
Now you're ready to go to the printer manufacturer's Web site and download and install the latest Windows XP drivers. If your printer came with Windows XP drivers on a CD, install them according to the manufacturer's instructions. Then connect the printer when instructed by the software.
If the manufacturer has Windows XP drivers for some printers but not for yours, try drivers for a similar model. If the manufacturer has no Windows XP-specific drivers, try the drivers for Windows 2000. Windows 98 drivers will definitely not work.

    • Toner cartridge is empty or toner in cartridge is not distributed evenly. Gently shake the toner cartridge both from side to side and from front to back. This can generally get you 100 or so more pages.

    • Bad or dirty cartridge contacts. Look for the conductive contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts in the printer and make sure they are clean and free of contaminants.

    • Defective High Voltage power supply or on the LJ II/III the DC controller to High Voltage power supply can be defective. Check for opens on the cable.

    • IIISi/4Si check the door open sensor flag, PS1. Also check the toner level sensor and the toner cartridge itself for damage. It can also be caused by a defective DC controller. You can verify this by substituting a known good DC controller if possible.

  • ABHISHEK.C
    ABHISHEK.C Jan 12, 2009

    • No toner cartridge or cartridge not fully seated - pull it out and install it again. On the IIP/IIIP the connections for the high voltage are made on the left side of the printer so you may want to favor that side as you install the cartridge.

    • On the HP LaserJet/LaserJet Plus (2686A/D) this can be caused by a defective cassette micro switch in which case you will have to repair or replace it.

    • On the II and III Series printers, this error message can be caused by a faulty paper control PCA. This is the board mounted to the DC power supply which is in the right front corner of the printer. Press the spring contacts and listen for the micro switches. You should hear a definite clicking.

    • On the II and III Series and the IIISi/4Si, make sure at least one of the two drum sensitivity tabs are present. These are small rectangular blocks of plastic which contact the switches in the printer.

    • On the 4V/4MV check the toner cartridge micro switch on the High Voltage PCB - SW501.

    • Also on the 4V/4MV check the door open sensor (PS402) on the terminal board located under the transfer roller.

    • Can also be caused by a defective DC controller. Pretty rare though.

There must be something on the Board for the Aftermarket Cartridge that is Programmed Wrong. The only solution is to use the HP Cartridge, Or try another Off Brand instead of the one that you have Purchased.

When the print cartridge contacts are dirty and the printer cannot detect a print cartridge.

Clean the contact points on the cartridges with a dry, lint-free cloth.

1. Open the top cover of the printer.

2. Remove the print cartridges.

3. Clean the copper-colored contact points on the cartridges with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Use a dry, lint-free cloth to remove moisture from the contacts.

5. Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

6. Close the top cover.

7. Try printing again.

How to reset hp 901 ink

When you get an HP integrated ink cartridge refilled (i.e. HP 60, 61, 74, 75, 901, 92-98....currently offered by Costco and Frys today) or if you buy a remanufactured/compatible HP ink cartridge, the ink levels CANNOT be reset (HP has a smart chip embedded within the nozzle plate at base of ink cartridge which counts the drops and then registers as empty - it uses fusible links so the electronics are literally blown - thus non-reversible).....so you just need to live with the low ink messages and ignore ink low, non-genuine, counterfeit, fraud messages and similar while you are using these types of refilled or aftermarket ink supplies.
Refer to Inkjet411.com sitelet for all printer models which use refilled ink cartridges (most major brands and models) - see videos below on HP 901 and 901XL low ink warning messages, along with all the other more severe error messages:

My HP Laserjet 3005 has faint print on the righthand side for at least the first 2". I have fitted a new toner but this has made no difference. Could this be the fuser unit?

If it happens even after replacing the toner cartridge or if you current cartridge has enough toner, it is most likely be due to dust at the laser reflecting mirrors inside the printers, which partially blocks laser beams and requires cleaning/ servicing by a professional.

GoodLuck!

Question on a 52.00 error message on an HP LaserJet 2420dn.

Look for a broken tab on top of your cartridge; if you have one, the laser safety interlock is not being opened when the cartridge is inserted. Install new cartridge.

If you don't have cartridge damage, there may be a failure of the laser assembly or (less likely) the engine controller board.
