Password reset asking foir insertion of floppy disc or usb flash drive#

You should have created a floppy-disk (or USB flash drive) after you initially defined the password, so that you can now use that device to "reset" the password.

Or, search for "Nordahl Offline Password" -- it's a bootable CD that can "blank" an existing password. Then, boot from the 'C:' drive, and leave the password field blank, and you will be able to login, and then set a more-memorable password, and you will be able to create that floppy-disk (or USB memory-stick).

Windows xp boot disk

Note: The Microsoft Windows XP CD is a bootable CD and in many cases you should not need a bootable floppy diskette. Booting from the Windows XP CD will allow you to not only install/re-install Windows XP but will also allow you to troubleshoot it.

Create MS-DOS bootable diskette

When formatting a floppy diskette, users have the option of creating a MS-DOS startup disk, follow the below steps to do this.

1. Place diskette in the computer.

2. Open My Computer, right-click the A: drive and click Format.

3. In the Format window, check Create an MS-DOS startup disk.

4. Click Start

Create Windows XP Setup diskettes

Microsoft is beginning to phase out bootable floppy diskettes in favor of bootable CD discs and has not included a method of easily creating a bootable floppy diskette in Windows XP or from the CD. However, Microsoft has downloads available for users who still need to create bootable diskettes to install (not upgrade) Windows XP. These downloads can be found through KB310994.

hope this helps

Reset bios without running hard disk first

2 options:

  1. create a bootable cd with the bios rom file, and a dos based flash utility (included with bios download). Boot to cd and flash.
  2. Connect a usb floppy drive and create bootable floppy. Copy rom file and flash utility to floppy, boot to floppy and flash......option 2 may be easier if you are not familiar with creating bootable cd's.......Let me know if this helps or not.

Boot cd problems

You can't just put the windows cd in your cd rom drive. If your going to change your boot order (to cd), then you HAVE TO use a BOOTABLE cd. That means a bootup disk with all the correct bootable files for WINXP. Same with a floppy. Change your boot order to a floppy....and in order to bootup windows, you MUST HAVE the bootable files ON THE floppy. In your case...the cd. The windows xp does not have the bootable files since it is only used for install and reinstall.

Create a bootable CD or floppy (((from someone elses WINXP pc or laptop))). There is a feature that allows you to do that. Then when you boot to cd it will start windows and give you options.

More info please

the page I said before hp.com has software to make usb bootdisk from floppy ;also has floppy image if you cant find a floppy.
create new folder on desktop...
download hp usb boot to desktop...
download floppy image to new folder
make sure usb stick plugged in..
unpack/install hp usb boot ..
in the program
select device(usb stick
select quick format and create a dos startup disk.
"using dos system files located at" new folder...
click start..
thats ur usb bootable ...before you add any files you can try to see if it works cos sometimes you dont have to access bios it finds auto...worth a try seeing as the whole proccess of downloading installing and making usb bootable takes about 10 to 15 min...
if bios recognises device pc will start and you will see c:/ promt
of course this isnt a c:/prompt it just fools the bios .
if at first you see non system disk gtry press ctrl+alt+del and let start again (sometimes have to do this, bit like kickstart)
if you see the same error then obviosly bios needs to be told but if its recognised then add your files to the usb stick and away you go.

Need to reset factory nec powermate as daughter has forgotten password as admin

You can reset by downloading a password restore iso file and creating a bootable CD from this if you have a CD writer on another computer. Otherwise check the NEC website on how to restore the original factory image (but you will lose all installed programs and user files).

Or use a friends PC to make a bootable floppy or CD.

http://www.loginrecovery.com you can make a bootable floppy disk or CD from this site.
