Wii fit sensor not functioning

My wii fit is not functioning properly. Center of balance way off. Found that the upper left sensor not functioning (red X during troubleshooting steps). What can be done for this problem? Can new sensors be purchased and installed? Take back to Best Buy? I have not called Nintendo service center yet, because I thought I would see if any of you bright people could help me first. Thank you for any help.

My husband kicked the wii board on accident and ever since the upper right sensor and the lower left sensor are not working. We were told we had to send it in for repair, (11-16 day turnaround) Haven't sent it in yet hoping someone else has solved this problem on their own.

P.S. are you supposed to wear shoes on the wii board?

boys7542, thanks for the comment. I'm happy to hear that these sensors can be kinda delicate; I was starting to get a weight complex.

Who informed you that you should send it in for repair? Any word on price for repair?

Update: I did call support at They will pay for shipping and repair of the wii fit board, because it was within the 90-day warranty (unsure what the price is after 90d). They confirmed the turnaround time is 11-16 days as noted above.

Also, I don't think you are suppose to wear shoes boys7542, but unsure if it would alter how the board functions.

The problem is not with the sensor. It is a bad capacitor (surface mount) on the control board.

Part way through a game, my Wii fit will say connection lost

1. Try replacing the batteries in the balance board.
2. Clean off your "Sensor Bar"
3. Move your "Sensor bar" to a location where it can better receive signals from your "Balance Board".

Keeps telling me I am fidgeting - tried everthing

Try borrowing a friends Wii balance board and connecting it to your own Wii then try. If it works fine it's a fault with your current wii balance board and you need to buy a replacement. If it still says your fidgeting I would get other individuals to try it, if it doesen't fidget for them it is you fidgeting. If it does say they are fidgeting & you already know your wii balance board is working the same as your friends then the surface your playing on is too un-even (probably too much of a balky carpet) or uneven floorboard/tile (whatever your floor material)

Hope this helps.

Wii fit balance board 3 quadrants are green and 1 is red

This means that one of the 4 sensors is broken. You will need to contact Nintendo via their website to get it repaired.

Good luck, and sorry about that!

Says I'm On When I'm Not

I managed to get my board working by, removing the covers from the feet sensors then placing the board upside down on the floor, then gently pulling on one foot sensor and pressing a, i continued until i found the one with the problem,
the solution i found was if you loosen the screw connecting the plate to the sensor very slightly the board will the calibrate and function correctly,
my board is still working without problems, hope this helps

Wii Fit instructions for movements are all in reverse

No it is not how Wii Fit is supposed to be. First, let me suggest that you ensure that the power button on the Wii Fit Balance Board is facing AWAY from the TV set. This may seem silly, but it's the most common error. As for the Hula Hoop game, make sure that your weight is all on the side of the Wii Fit Balance Board in the direction that you need to lean to catch the hoop.

There have been instances of the sensors in the Wii Fit Balance Board going out. If you have tried the above steps and you are still getting errors, please go to, register your product, and open a problem ticket with them.

Good luck!

WII FIT Board only recognizes movement on one side

Try doing the balance board test to make sure all the sensors are working probably. Click on "User Settings" (the wrench) on the wii fit plaza page. From there your should click on the "wii balance board check." It will walk you through the process and check your sensors to make sure they are working.
