How do I remove the top of my LG WM2496HSM washer?
I have an LG WM2496HSM front load washer with an FE error code. I know
this is for the water valve assembly, which I have ordered both, since
I'm not sure which one is faulty, but how do I get the top off the
washer!?@&! I have removed the screws on the back, bit it is not
budging, what's the trick? Also, is there a way to know which valve is faulty by the code?

Code will not tell which is faulty. To remove top: after removing three phillips head screws (leaving the L shaped part attached to the top) slide the top back about one and a half inches and lift it straight up.

Jodie, the OE fault is a drain problem. First thing to look at is the pump coin trap on the bottom of the washer behind the little door. If the washer has water in it, pull out the little hose, remove the stopped at the end and drain into a shallow bucket. When the water stops, removed the trap by twisting the trap handle counter clock wise. If it is full of "stuff" clean it and reinstall it. If it is clean, then you either have a bad pump or something stopping the pump.
I found this information on the internet. I hope that it helps.
" Getting fe code on lg washer.
"This means that the washer is overflowing. This is a built in fault that turns on the drain pump so that the water doesn't get so high that it gets into the floor. If water is continually flowing into the washer you will get this problem. If this is the case the water valve is most likely the problem. To confirm unplug the washer and if the water doesn't stop flowing into the washer the water valve is the problem.
FE means Fill Error. If you unplug the machine and it still fills, and the only way to stop the filling is to turn off the valves supplying the water to the fill hose(s), then you need to replace a fill valve. It is best to figure out which one by turning one off at a time while the machine is in that FE condition. There is aseparatehot and cold valve. (they are the part that the hose screws onto on the machine.) To replace valve, cover comes off machine by removing two screws at the back of the top. (not the two which go into the top, the ones just below them) Then, standing in front of the machine, use the palms of your hands to give the top a sharp push to the rear to slide the top back about two inches. Then lift the top off.
I have had the same problem with mine. I have started taking the rubber seal off at least once a month to clean it with bleach and water. I would not recommend doing this unless you are handy with tools. You might try cleaning the seal with bleach and water while it remains on the machine. Careful to pull the inner sealing lip down to get to the "Slime" behind it. Good Luck
FE is Fill Error. If door is closed and washer is plugged in, FE means water is too high and water pump will turn on.
This happens most often when a water fill valve will not shut off completely, allowing water to continue to fill washer, sometimes very slowly. If you shut off one valve (where the hose comes from the household plumbing) at a time you may be able to tell which valve is the culprit. The hot is a single coil valve, the cold is a multi coil valve. Both are the part where the hoses connect onto the machine.
To access valves, remove 3 phillips head screws at the back of the washer holding the top cover in place. Slide the top back about two inches and lift it off.
Yes, the water valves are easy to locate and replace. Just remove the top panel to get access to them. There are 2 of them. You need to know which one to replace before ordering the correct part from LG.
