The glow stick lights up; approx30 seconds later, you can hear and smell the gas turn on, but the flame does not start

Depending on the specific unit you have the hot surface igniter (glow stick) may be only for lighting the pilot, which then ignite the main burners. The flame has to be proved before the gas valve opens for the main burners. This is done by the flame rod, which could be faulty in your case. The proximity of the igniter could also prevent ignition. Check that the flame rod is clean and secure. Note. be very careful when servicing gas appliances, and never ever use lighters, matches or any other flame source to light them except for the ignition system supplied by the appliance. These appliances are designed and built with safety devices to prevent ignition when it senses a fault or malfunction. This is all for safety. Do not bypass safety devices, it can kill. Call a qualified tech.

Gas heater, everything seems ok, fan starts, igniter glows but gas valve wont open. what could be the problem

It could be a number of problems........ I will give you the most common ones. Did the gas get shut off..are you getting gas to the Gas Valve..... Is the gas valve getting 24 volts right at the end of the cycle of the igniter? If not then the ignition control board could be bad.. If the gas valve is getting gas and 24 volts then the gas valve could be bad. The manifold gas pressure may be to low... The gas burner itself may be dirty and not letting the gas to hit the Hot surface ignitor. Or the position of the ignitor may be to far or to close to the burner..... So you see if could be any one of these or a combination of them... Hope this help on your problem.

As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician Or HVAC tech to advise what work is needed.
Before you do any work yourself,
on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,
always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB
SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY
REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

I have a Rudd furnace model UGRA-04EMAES in heating cycle inducer makes pressure switch ignitor lites up no gas pressure i rplaced gas valve and board still no gas. Wat next?

Well first you want to verify that there is gas pressure coming from the connector. Turn off the valve and disconnect the connector. Then turn on the valve for 1 second and back off. You should get plenty of gas flow. Be careful doing this!. Then inspect the opening at the adapter to the control. There is a screen inside there. Make sure the screen is clear(not plugged with pipe dope, lint ect). When the igniter reaches the 2200 degrees you should hear the gas solenoid valve click open releasing gas. If you hear it click and no gas is released you will need to inspect the burner orfices. The orfice has an extremely small hole and there is a posibillity that they are plugged with debris. You will need to use a very small wire(like a tie strap) and insert it into each hole and see if there is anything in the orfice. If you do not hear the gas valve click then it might not be getting the signal it needs due to a weak igniter or flame rectification sensor. Does your furnace have a stand-by pilot that is lit by the hot surface igniter or does the igniter directly light the burner assembly?

Rudd Furnace Model UGRA-04EMAES Gas valve will not open

Hi,

If the Igniter is not glowing, then the gas valve would not open to push out the gas. This indicates a Weak Igniter and you need to replace that.

Let me know, if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Heater is on firing up- everything seems ok but there is nogas-goes thru the cycle with igniter glow orange but does not ignite- there doesnt seem to have any gas present to ignite weathermaker 8000

the igniter has to have proper omhos to open gas valve.
recommend replacing igniter. be careful not to touch new igniter with bare hands. oils in the skin of your hands will cause the igniter to get too hot and burn out quick

Flames will not start even though igniter glows

i am not very familiar with this particular model but something must tell the gas valve to open.there must be a thermocouple or optical scanner that creates a signal to open the gas valve. if there is a signal to the gas valve then the gaas valve will need to be replaced
